Post subject:  Finally The Breguet

Well the Breguet Type XXI found it’s way to me today (tough I looked hard at the IWC Portuguese, a JLC MC Chrono, and – GULP - even a couple Pams). Quite simply it is my perfect watch. At 42.5mm it wears much larger – especially on the bracelet, which flows across the fingers like quicksilver and is brushed and polished.

The dial detail is like nothing I’ve had on my wrist. The dial color is neither brown nor charcoal – I’ve concluded it is simply it’s own color. Like it, hate it – it is what it is (I really like it!). The detail down to the sparkling faceted diamond shaped hour markers is perfect. All 3 subdials are different sizes and cut to different depths. Counting the date aperture there are SIX levels in the dial. And it is eminently readable. Maybe the most readable I’ve worn. Lume is quite good.

The head is amazing. Nice coined/fluted edges. The perfectly brushed bezel slopes naturally from the domed crystal.

The Chrono starts without the slightest jump. The Flyback is sure and without any play in the reset. The pushers are firm and not accidently activated. But the thing that got me most was the feel of the crown when winding the movement. I don’t have words to describe it, but it is as if Breguet wants to transmit the movement's winding sensation to the wearer’s fingers. It even has a unique sound to it.

I don’t regret this one at all. Except perhaps the pics that follow.

The ultimate irony is I slammed my wrist against a hard marble edge while moving the last empty box from my move yesterday. My ulnar styloid is quite swollen!

So... that's the watch....
I was playing with that watch a couple of month ago. Very nice, I knew it was a Breguet cause it's written on the dial but didn't know what model it was hahaha.
I'm not a Breguet fan and it's not my style. But it looks wonderful on your wrist mr sharkman.
What's next? A Jaeger LeCoultre?

Yeah, that's sick. I fell in love with that thing after I saw it in person, not brown at all  You gonna get the strap as well?

Congrats sharkman, looks great on the wrist and the level of detail and finishing looks amazing.

Now let's see "Breguet" in that signature...

Very nice indeed. Looks good on the bracelet too, and rare as well as most are only ever kept on a strap. Are the links pins or screws incidentally?

What a stunning watch Shark!! Your pictures don't do this watch enough justice (not a slap at your photography skills). You really need to see this dial in person to appreciate just how unique it looks. This really adds something different to your collection.

And as Sergio said...I know this one has been a long time coming, especially for someone who at times will pick up 2 watches in 1 trip to the AD. :poke:

Many Congratulations Tom.

Thanks for the detailed introduction. Your passion comes flooding through. And why wouldn't it. The Type XXI is a beautiful, versatile tool watch from one of the high end manufactures.

I love the topography of the dial. It screams attention to detail which, in turn, equates to quality.

From your pictures I would guesstimate the dial to be a slate grey.

I've also had the immense pleasure of trying one of these on in the past so I am deeply jealous of your latest aquisition.

Yes, I will be getting the strap - probably will order soon - special order short (it's like being left handed - which I am - everythin costs extra).

The links are held by a single long screw each. They are not the easiest to work with and require some patience getting that first movement. Also need a pair of jewlers needle nose to pull it out. Once you've done it once it becomes an easy and quick adjustment.

And as was suggested it is very serious value for the money (full retail is $10,600 on bracelet, a bit less on the strap).

Also an AD that carries only Breguet, IWC, JLC, Panerai, and Chopard is a dangerous place to window shop.

I think one of our forum memebers is picking up a Type XXI today. Can't wait to hear this mystery man's impressions.
