I'm looking for some everyone to share their tips on how they photograph their watches.

1- Do you use a light box? Is so can you post a photo?
2- Are you using a DSLR or a standard point and shoot? If using a DSLR, Are you using a macro lens?
3- What setting is your camera on? Manual, auto, iso. etc..
4- What do you use for a backdrop?

I've seen some really great photos lately and would love for everyone to share their knowledge.

Hi,

1- Do you use a light box? No
2- Are you using a DSLR, currently a DSLR with a macro, but have got some great results with a point and shoot on macro
setting. No flash in natural day light.
3- What setting is your camera on? I usually use auto.
4- What do you use for a backdrop? Mirrors, silk cloth, maps, technical drawings, well seasoned timber.

Take loads of photos in very slightly different positions, (you can delete 90% for the 10% of great ones) Clean the watch and set the hands in different positions, the classic 2 10 shot, make sure the alignments correct.

Oh and share the results with friends!

Ian.

I tend to use as much natural light as possible.

Never use the flash and never use a lightbox.

DSLR of course and tend to shoot using Aperture priority.

A few examples..

My father is very much into photography, and he told me quite a while ago, "The secret to taking good pictures is to take a lot of pictures." Seriously, film is cheap in the digital age.

I get the best results in natural light. The flash always blows out the dial. I use the automatic setting, unless I'm trying to do something particular with my depth of focus. I use all sorts of stuff for backgrounds. I've been working on a military-themed set of pictures for a while now.

EDIT: Oh yeah, I use a Canon DSLR.

No light box, Sony point & shoot on macro setting auto, whatever background is good. Oh, and absolutely no flash. I could surely benefit from a DSLR to get more crispness, but its the indian and not the arrow, and I really have no use for one.
A few examples that I could find in some of my old posts:

Bahahahahaha! I wouldn't worry about watch photos, you're not going to have time to take them anyways, plus it's hard to hold the camera with a screaming baby in one hand and a bottle of milk in the other :poke:
