Just thought I'd post a before and after shot of some Cape Cod work I recently did to my Cockpit. The polished portion of the bezel was beginning to collect some scratches, so I taped off the areas and got to work! Hope you can see the difference. It was worth the elbow grease.   Quick bonus - shot of the newly clean Cockpit.

Nice! Is that regular scotch tape you use? How long did the actual polishing take to restore that finish? I think I have a tendancy to give up to quickly. |

I did use scotch tape on this particular occasion... A little "low rent", I know, but masking/painters tape is what I would normally use. As far as duration... it can take a while - just the polishing takes 20-30 mins?. I think the trick is more about getting pressure in the right places rather than how much time you spend. Instead of running the whole cloth across the bezel, I just took one corner of it and worked it on one portion of the bezel until I was satisfied. Thanks for the comments guys - I'm just glad I had the forethought to take the "before" shot! |

Qestion: do you guys use the cloth on the back of the head? Aren't you afraid that with the cloth you might actually rub the serial number or product number off? Or are you guys careful and avoid that area? Or is the engraving deep enough that you really don't have to worry about this? |

So when you polish your back, you just go to town on the whole thing? You don't try to avoid the engravings? |

Maybe the model number, but the serial looks like it is a pretty shallow engraving. So when you polish your back, you just go to town on the whole thing? You don't try to avoid the engravings? I'm guessing that you have never used a Cape Cod. They are very gentle, I have never been concerned about damging serial numbers. |

I've gotten improved cape coddling technique a bit so I figured I would post a few more pics of the process. Disassembled. (bezel off and all the dirt washed off before a polishing commences):  Mid clean (crystal taped over and lots of elbow grease!):  After clean (reassembled and EXTRA shiny, although the picture might not do it justice):  I've owned this thing for a long while now and it still looks quite nice (with some patina, but in great shape overall). Oh and I have a ew companion for my wrist while cleaning :
