I am starting to look at my next purchase and thought I would open the floor to suggestions. As of now I have a pretty good rotation between my 2 lings and a Hami, but I am interested in a white or silver dialed sports watch on bracelet. I do like polished SS, but a mix of brushed and polished would be fine too. That being said....I have been thinking the Steelfish is a good looking peice and would be a great compliment to the Ling family. As for non-lings.....I was thinking a UN Maxi Marine or some other lesser known peice. This is an open brainstorming session brought to you by your local bored cubical worker. |

I'd go for the Steelfish, great bang for your buck with that one. There are some deals to be had on preowned UNs, so if you're able to find one of those, it would be a tough choice but I'd pick the UN. |

It seems like the MM diver can be found for a damn good price, and it is a great looking peice. The chronometre is what really caught my eye, but the price is higher and availibility is less. My guess would be that the MMD would prob run about $1000 more than the SF. Does that sound about right? |

I just replaced my Rolex steel and gold Datejust with a Superocean Steelfish with with the brushed professional bracelet and a silver dial. It is a gorgeous watch and I couldn't be happier with it. The black dial had my attention, but the silver dial makes it the perfect blend for sport and everyday wear. It's really a great combination. |

I would go for some variety by getting a pre-owned UN , maxi marine line is really good . ![]() |

I agree on variety, and there is no doubting that the UN is a smooth looking peice. However 3 B's has such a nice sound to it. On a similar note.....Could someone more knowledgable give me a comparison of the Rolex Yachtmaster and UN MM. Very similar watches |

UN MMD would be a great choice on your criteria, but I think the price difference from a SF will be more than 1k (I assume you're looking at second-hand in both cases). Compared to the Rolex YM, the UN will feel heavier and wear larger, probably more so than the 3mm difference in diameter would suggest. In terms of similarities, they both look sporty, they have brushed and polished surfaces on the bracelet and case, they both have fairly unique looking dials, and they both have a cyclops on the crystal. With the Rolex you get a platinum dial, a tried and tested in-house movement, and a much higher price tag. Also better resale value, if that matters to you. The UN has an ETA movement with a UN power reserve module added. The YM is far from the most common Rolex, but the UN is rarer in the wild. |

That being said, I have found the comfort zone to be dependent on the strap or band. Personally, I like the looks of mine on a leather strap but it's not comfortable (it feels very top-heavy on my wrist and hurts after extended wear). Mine feels much more comfortable on the Breitling blue rubber strap but I don't feel "secure" enough to dive, swim, run, etc (probably just my feelins for it). The Pro II bracelet however, feels extremely secure and for the most part, comfortable. The Steelfish is a tank, with regards to weight and durability. It is also a beautiful watch. Would I buy it again...probably not. Not because I don't like it (I love it); because it is not comfortable to wear for me. Again, personal preferences... With regards, UofRSpider |

Lots of good suggestions guys. Man the more I see the Steelfish, the better it looks. My only concern is the thickness. I reallly like the slimmer profile watches, and at 16mm it may be a bit tall on the wrist. I am going to try in on in the mettle soon. @ OTTO: thanks for the UN yachtmaster comparison. I think that just confirmed that I would enjoy the UN more. I guess the main decision is whether or not I can justify the premium paid on the UN, over a very capable and good looking steelfish. |

You're welcome. The Steelfish wears small for its dimensions, incidentally. I used to have one, and if you'd asked me how thick it was, I wouldn't have guessed 16mm. But I think the premium for the UN can easily be justified. The second-hand prices they seem to be commanding at the moment are very buyer-friendly. |

I'd have to vote for the UN just to add a little bit of variety to your collection. Plus I think its a nice looking white faced watch ![]() |

Guys you are not comparing these watches fairly. Yes the UN MMD does not have the best resale and can be had for about $3k vs $1500-2k for a Steelfish - but make no mistake - these watches are nothing alike. The fit and finish on the UN MMD is on par with that of a JLC and very close to a Patek. Just read up online and you will find many others with experience with this watch make the same claim. |
