Anyone know if there is a site that rates watches by Luminosity? I just got my PAM359 and love it - but my BlackBird BLOWS IT AWAY when it comes to luminosity - I'm actually a bit disappointed as I would think with Panerai's history, this would be a major area to focus on....but my BlackBird seems to light up more quickly and retain brightness much longer than the PAM. I'll assume there isn't any "breaking in" period....? |

Interesting. Sandwich-dial PAMs usually have great luminosity - the lume on my 111 is far better than any Breitling I've seen. |

I'd love to post a pic, but this is a very difficult watch to photograph as the polished case and crystal pick up a lot of reflections when trying to photograph it. I'm thinking maybe it's the brown hue? Again, I expected this to be VERY luminous from everything that I've read about Panerais - but quite honestly, I'm really not impressed with the luminosity....again - there isn't any kind of "breaking in" period for it, is there? I can't take my eyes off the watch - I'm so infatuated with it....I've also got a deposit on a 321 (way before I got the 359), but one of the reasons why I liked the watch was the large numbers and high luminosity - now I'm paranoid I put a deposit down on a watch that won't meet my expectations....? Oh, and back to my original question - are there any sites that provide some kind of luminosity ratings? Thanks guys! |

I will take plenty of pictures.......................... And also check the luminosity .......................... This service may take many months...................... As far as lume sites, I don't think there is any one place to find a direct comparison of all the available lumes. I saw this interesting comparison on WUS and have posted it here before. forums.watchuseek.com/f2/lume-test-ball-emii-diver-seiko-monster-luminox-many-pics-81978.html I think part of the issue is that there isn't a single metric by which you can measure luminosity. It's a function of time, ambient light level, etc... As far as a "break in" time, I don't think that applies to lume. The material should, in fact, be brightest now that it's new. |

Nice find. Interesting comparing the tubes to lume. |

Here's a photo - http://i458.photobucket.com/albums/qq30 ... G_0116.jpg I got my BlackBird out and put them both side by side in the same light before I went to bed....bottom line is that the BlackBird remained brighter for a longer period of time. I could see both in the pitch black all night long - but the luminosity of my BlackBird was definitely more impressive. I still love the watch though ![]() |

Nice picture, you caught it very well, (it just makes my Pam craving a little worse, thanks). Out of interest what's the age of your Blackbird, could it have a different, earlier i.e. stronger coating? Ian |

My BlackBird is the most recent model and I came into possession of May of 2008 - so a little over 2 years in age. I wear it religiously M-F. Again, I love them both - I'm just somewhat shocked that the PAM is not brighter, or at least just as bright, as my BB. |
