| Post subject: | Import/Customs from Germany? |
Does anybody have experience with purchasing a watch from Germany and having it shipped to the US? I am looking at purchasing a new watch but the seller is in germany... I don't want to pay $6k for the watch and $5k for import tariffs! |

The 6K and 5K numbers were just an example! I'm on the verge of pulling the trigger on an 18K Daytona.. I can't decide between the Daytona and the Gold Navi World, but have found a Dayton in Germany and am curious about importing before I pull the trigger. Any advise? |

I think your best bet is to call the customs office in the US, they should be able to tell you what and how things work. If it was the other way around, the german customs takes just about 25% in import fees and taxes. |

The safest way to import a Rolex to the U.S. is on your wrist. If you want this deal so badly that you are willing to risk a seizure by U.S. customs, make sure you get an explicit agreement that the seller bears the risk of you not receiving the item and carries appropriate insurance to give you a refund in the event of loss, damage or confiscation (it is unlikely that you could purchase full coverage through the regular postal system). And of course, pay with the credit card that favors buyers - Amex. |

Not to worry, duties are not bad at all. Here's a thread here: http://forums.watchuseek.com/f251/impor ... 44016.html Now with gold case, IDK. But still $5000 at 4.2% is "only" $210. Here's the latest classifications: http://www.usitc.gov/publications/docs/ ... 001c91.pdf It's kinda hard to figure out, if the wording fits, you go right to the next indent; if no, you go down to the next wording at the same indent until you answer yes, then go right. Duty is in the first column. So I'm thinking yours is 9101.21.10 @ 3.1%. Precious metal case, auto wind, 17+jewels, metal bracelet. |

Thanks! Very insightful! I wonder if the movement fee for Rolex would be more? The gold case, definitely more.. I debating whether or not to take the risk! |
