Nice set of complications - perpetual alarms make a lot of sense to me. |

Beautiful watches. I have a dumb question though, how does the alarm work? |

roman4405 wrote: how does the alarm work? If you mean operationally, just like you would expect - you set the time and then turn it on. If you mean mechnaically then there is a separate spring that drives a mechanism to engage a hammer with a piece of metal that runs around the inside of the case and acts like a gong. |

Yeah, I was talking about the physical operation of it. That's pretty cool, I always wondered how it worked on an auto. Thanks. |

I love watching the hammers hit the "gong" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jppkEiVi ... re=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qpt_0bNp ... re=related There are several more of course, all doing the same thing, often very differently... |

That's one of my favorite watches- the Master Control Grand Reveil. It's also one of the larger JLC's one can find . . . 43mm I believe. My only complaint is that it does not have a display caseback, which I'm fairly certain is due the the alarm function. It's a stunning watch nonetheless. -Craig |

thanks for the comments boys.. in regards to the alarm complication, it's a separate manual wind mechanism activated by the top crown. it is indeed 43mm and 16mm thick. in terms of weight, thickness and diameter it feels _almost_ like a ling ![]() |

I forgot to mention it in my first post, but Jay Leno wears a gold grand reveil. |

That Grand Reviel is fantastic! the best value for money in high end complications bar none in my opinion! Did you buy it new or second hand? I must admit I am not too crazy about the styling, but the finish, movement, and value are superb! A final note, there are significantely larger JLCs than the 43mm case, such as the 46MM Extreme W Alarm and Chrono. |
