Post subject: | What the brands tell about an AD |
Hey, I was looking through some ADs in my vicinity, and there are a lot! I checked out their websites and most of them carried brands that weren't truly exceptional (There is this one AD, however, that carries nearly all the highest-end brands such as Patek, Audemars, etc.). I did come across this one store that had the brands Hamilton, Raymond Weil, Tag Heuer, and Longines. Those brands, as most can agree, aren't bad, but aren't great either (except maybe Longines, which, as people have said, is a great bang for your buck brand). The funny thing about this particular AD is the fact that they also had Pateks. My question is: do the brands that an AD has to offer reflect on the quality of the AD? I am wondering this because Patek is an incredible brand, one of the greatest, but surely they would "quality check" the ADs they send their watches to, right? It jsut didn't make sense when I saw these low-end brands paired up with the Pateks. Thanks, crasian1030 |

Those Pateks won't exactly fly out of the display case, eh? Why wouldn't they have some lower end brands that will pay to keep the electricity on? I've come across many AD that carry all sorts of brands - high and low. The one I frequent now though carries just 6 brands - Breitling, Omega, Tag, Zenith, Cartier, Tissot, and Michelle. They are a large pure jewelry store too. I see more woman in there getting jewelry deisgned than guys looking at watches. A couple weeks a go there was a guy who sold his entire watch collection to buy his fiance and engagement ring. I figured he should just turn in his "Man Card" and give up. |

Quote: Poor guy aint gonna know what hit him about a year from now. A $200,000 engagement ring! My AD just leaned across her desk and said, "She must do something very well." |

He should have done something more like this: An older, white haired man walked into a jewelry store one Friday evening with a beautiful young woman at his side. He told the jeweler he was looking for a special ring for his girlfriend. The jeweler looked through his stock and brought out a $5,000 ring and showed it to him. The old man said, "I don't think you understand, I want something very special." At that statement, the jeweler went to his special stock and brought another ring over. "Here's a stunning ring at only $80,000", the jeweler said. The young lady's eyes sparkled and her whole body trembled with excitement. The old man seeing this said, "We'll take it." The jeweler asked how payment would be made and the old man stated, by check. "I know you need to make sure my check is good, so I'll write it now and you can call the bank Monday to verify the funds and I'll pick the ring up Monday afternoon," he said. Monday morning, a very teed-off jeweler phoned the old man. "There's no money in that account." "I know", said the old man, "but can you imagine the weekend I had?" |

Trying to keep this on topic........ Many watch brands will actually look at the other brands that a store carries to ensure that they have a suitable 'pride of place' within hte store - PP don't want to be in a display case next to Lange and Sohne for example. That said, there is usually some kind of informal 'tiering' - the jeweller has to be associated with fine timepieces in the consumer's mind or they won't get the business. Variables to that model will also be, the number of potential ADs, the distance to the next closest AD, etc - demographics play a large part, especially in North America where distances can be fairly large between ADs. |

But, yeah, that makes sense: the not wanting to be competing with another high-end brand to look better. Thanks |

It all depends on the watch collection..... And the girl. I'd part with a pretty good sized collection for Jessica Alba. |
