Post subject:  Expansion plans for the next two years

Well I have been putting some serious thought into my collection the last year and especially the last two weeks after my buying binge, and I realized that I have a problem, its not that I like watches, its that I like almost ALL well made watches! Every brand out there has something to interest me, previously I thought I would eventually accumulate a definitive collection of one brand that I would choose (Breitling, Then Panerai, then IWC etc) with a mix of a few odd pieces for variety. Lately however I have decided to take another route, and that is to collect what I deem to be the definitive representatives from each brand I am passionate about, they are Panerai, IWC, JLC, Rolex ,AP , Omega, and Breitling. This is at least one way to add some boundary to my addiction! There will be the odd piece here or there as with some brands I have an affection towards a single model rather than the brand as a whole. Examples would be the Patek Nautilus and the Fifty Fathoms.

I am very happy with the progress I have made so far, the only brand I think I might focus on more than the others is Panerai, as that is where my heart lies.

I have just sold my Bentely 6.75, intend to eventually sell my Chronomat, and my brand new UN Chronometer 43, and will be gradually adding the following pieces:

1- JLC Navi Seals Diving GMT Alarm.

2- The Fifty Fathoms. Dont feel the lust for a brand as a whole, but this single model caries the day with its build quality and simple yet beautiful design. Plus it has a Sapphire crystal!

3- AP Royal Oak Offshore Black Themes. The Safari has me in stiches all day long and I have developed a taste for this series, my seond favorite model:

4- Panerai 317. The ceramic case, monopulsante movement, 'Nuff said.

5- The Panerai 339. Ceramicasized titanium. They electrocute some titanium under water until it turns to this chocolate brown metal that is stronger than steel and yet as light as titanium. 47mm radiomir with an in house movement and the * Giorni logo to add balance against the seconds hand. Aged Luminova numerals and a sandwich dial. A must have watch!!!

6- The Patek Annual Calendar I posted about earlier.

7- A Breitling with an in house movement. NOT the Chronomat B01 as that is not for me. Hopefully a Navitimer that will be eventually introduced.

Well there you have it, just thought I would share my master plan. I dont expect everyone to understand what I am doing, in fact thats kind of the thing with my collection, I guarantee that you will find at least one watch you like and at least one you hate. Diversity is the spice of life after all!

Nice selections Altair. Not many that would be on my list, but I certainly applaud the selections from the range.

No room for a Type XXII?

That Breguet type xxii is a beautiful piece...especially on the two toned leather.

I like your thinking Altair. Of your selections, I too really want to try the Navy Seals Diver and the 50 fathoms; I think they are two truly fantastic pieces! Not too interested personally in the rest but what does that matter

Any particular order?

Solid plan, Altair, I like your choices (especially the first three).

And of course, when other things catch your eye over the next two years, you can have fun trying to figure out how to fit them into the plan. :D

Im liking those choices. Im not a fan of any radiomirs, but that titanium treatment sounds pretty damn cool.

Awesome examples. I see from your other thread, you've already completed the "12-Step Program" That is the first step in recovering, admitting you have a problem. NOT that watch collecting is a problem, per se.

Yes, exactly. The JLC Seals(chrono), Blancpain 50 fathoms(chrono), and Breguet Type XXII are the ones currently comprising my short list. But just for one - one...

It just occurred to me that I was playing with that JLC Navy alarm at my AD the other day. One very peculiar thing about it is the alarm. The inner circle (where the JLC logo and little arrow at 7 is) rotates to set the alarm on the desired time. I dont know if I was using it wrong or what, but the JLC logo also rotates with the inner disc, so essentially, if you dont set the alarm on the hour it was designed with in mind (apparently 7 o'clock according to the pic), the JLC logo will be out of place, upside down even, depending on what time youve set the alarm for. Weird.

:yeahthat +1

The JLC and the Fifty Fathoms are two on my "special list" as well!

I'd love a 317 but the price is prohibitive for me and I'm not sure about the 339. BTW I thought it was composite and therefore had more in common with Zirconium Oxide ceramic rather than titanium. :huh Maybe I'm wrong though ....

We have very similar tastes! I have been drooling over for the 339 for 6 months. I said I would never buy another Rad (I only have a 210), but that piece is amazing.

Hmmm. That hadn't occurred to me, but looking at the pic I can see what you mean. Have to say I wouldn't like that, not at all.

the XXII is a sweet watch, but I will have to see it in person. I am dropping the Fifty Fathoms as I saw it a few days ago and decided it is not my thing so there is free space now!
