http://breitlingsource.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=15217&hilit=tarrif Duties are 5% on watches that are made in Switzerland/Germany. Add to that GST and PST. |

I just ordered and received a Bergeon 6825 from the states and got dinged for $57.11 from UPS in duties and taxes. The total value for the tool was $184.32 . GST was 12.98. Duty /brkerage fee was 39.10 and taxes on the brokerage fee were $5.03. That is a whopping 31% charge. Is this crazy ? Is it only UPS or is it the same story with USPS and FedEX ? |

The brokerage / handling / processing fee is usually a flat fee charged by the carrier for handling the import duty on your behalf. It always seems worse on relatively low value items as the percentage becomes higher. |

If you buy a pre-owned watch from the US are you still charged the same duties/tax rates? |

You have to present yourself to the UPS counter, take the paperwork, then present yourself to the Customs office to clear the package and go back to UPS with your release copy. They will provide you with the package once it's cleared by customs. The brokerage fees are a big SCAM and most of the people just don't know they can refuse it. It's a "service" they are offering you... ![]() |
