Hey guys. Anyone know what the duty is for Canadians buying a watch from a US seller in terms of %. Thanks guys.

Duties are 5% on watches that are made in Switzerland/Germany.

Add to that GST and PST.

I have been charged the 5% duty and GST on my last 2 purchases from the states. No PST from the quebec government.

just received a watch last week from USA. price on pakage was 1400$ and shipped ups. i had to pay 190$ in fees.

I just ordered and received a Bergeon 6825 from the states and got dinged for $57.11 from UPS in duties and taxes. The total value for the tool was $184.32 . GST was 12.98. Duty /brkerage fee was 39.10 and taxes on the brokerage fee were $5.03. That is a whopping 31% charge. Is this crazy ? Is it only UPS or is it the same story with USPS and FedEX ?

The brokerage / handling / processing fee is usually a flat fee charged by the carrier for handling the import duty on your behalf. It always seems worse on relatively low value items as the percentage becomes higher.

You can ALWAYS refuse the package and the brokerage fees. You have to present yourself to the UPS counter, take the paperwork, then present yourself to the Customs office to clear the package and go back to UPS with your release copy. They will provide you with the package once it's cleared by customs.

The brokerage fees are a big SCAM and most of the people just don't know they can refuse it. It's a "service" they are offering you... :poke:

Not particularly practical if you live 200km away from a customs office though........
