I'm 14 an I'm getting into watch collecting. Most of my friends insult me and say its a waste of time and I should collect cars instead. I need something to tell them that would persuade them that watch collecting is equal or greater than car collecting. Also as another note, what kind of watch should I next. I have a small Rolex that my dad gave me and a TAG Heuer that I bought with my own money. |

I started my collection with Rolex too when I was 15, wish I still had that DateJust. I have two pieces of advice to give you: 1- Never sell the Rolex that your dad gave you, with time you will want something and think that it is a good idea to sell it. Trust me, you will eventually cherish it more than any other watch. 2- Dont worry about what other people say, buying any watch is a very personal thing and is not a practical decision in itself. You can tell time with any number of devices these days, a watch is supposed to bring you pleasure, not just serve a purpose. If you really want to shut up your friends tell them that your watch will appreciate in value in 20 years time and a car will be worth a fraction of its cost. By the way, how many 14 year olds out there collect cars? ![]() |

Did i say am also new to forums? Well thank you Altair I both enjoyed your games and advice that you have given me. And come to think of it your right! A watch is a rare item that's value will grow every year while a car's decrease. I never will plan on selling my Rolex and my friends are talking about the future. |

As you look to grow your collection focus on what appeals to you. Don't get sucked into the hype of one brand being better than another, just find watches that 'speak' to you. Cost isn't relevant as long as you can afford it. I guarantee you that 20 years from now a good number of the friends that think that you are silly will be cherishing a quality watch - and by that time you may have hundreds ![]() Enjoy the marvelous hobby and be your own person. |
