Okay chaps, can you give me some input? One of my friends wants to buy a nice watch and he's asked me for some advice(obviously thinks I know a bit about watches with my collection, don't think he's figured out I'm just stupid)!!

Price range of around £500-£1000 new. Just looking for brands rather than models, he can pick a bloody watch for himself if I tell him what brands to go for. Quartz probably out the window.

Thanks for the assistance!

Cheers

Stock answer which should fit in that budget in the UK (certainly does here) is Oris. Great value for money.

Longines, Tag and Tissot also fall into that price bracket.

Thats what I would have said as well. And as suggested by Sharkmouth, Longines is a nice bet if you can find a good piece at the upper end of his budget (I think they probably also have the most brand cache of anything in that price range).

I'd say Tissot or TAG Heuer. Both companies have wide ranges, dress, casual, tool, motorsports, lots of good choices. Not exactly sure about how the ranges fit into his budget, but there will be options.

Peace

Another vote for Oris here too. Great watches for the money and not as "high street" as Longines or Tag.

Thanks chaps, funnily enough I had told him Oris and he had seen a Tissot. Never thought of Longines and thought Tag's would be too high end!

Cheers
