Since I can actually see and touch the movement on my recent Hamilton pocket watch, I was wondering how to regulate it. I see the F - S with the lever attached to the balance wheel. Does a person just softly move the lever to adjust or is there more to it? Also if the watch is running slow does it get moved to the "F" or to the "S"?

Thanks.

Short answer - move the regulator (the 'lever'  ) towards the F (fast) and it will run faster.

Long answer - watches like this will be very sensitive to position, temperature, etc so don't automatically assume that you need to adjust. Also, the regulator will only provide fine adjustments. I'm assuming that the watch has a split balance wheel with screws in it and the larger adjustments have to be made by adjusting those screws (maybe loosening or tightening, maybe actual material removal) - not a job for the novice

Thanks for the info. I was mostly just curious and am not going to be "tweaking" anything watch related with a screwdriver. I thought the regulator was for fine adjustments and that why I was asking.
