A big, sarcastic, thanks to the person who stared talking about Hamilton Pocket watches. I just bought a cool looking watch on eBay.

It was titled as "1917 HAMILTON 940 21J 18S SALESMEN CASE RR POCKET WATCH" fully serviced and a DISPLAY BACK!!!

Pictures will follow after it arrives!

... now how to attach a strap..... :)

Congratulations BroncoSport, I look forward to your pics. Can you do that, attach a strap to a pocketwatch? Good luck!

Yeah but it allows for MORE purchases at this price point! I sure hope this pocket watch satisfys this watch void and thats the end of it, otherwise there might be more of these little jewels in my future. :)

Yeah it's a slippery slope, trust me.

I'm trying to limit my pocket watches to fancy cased gold hunters or practice pieces for my watchmaking at the moment.

Well she arrived today and wow what a watch. My sorry excuse for pictures dont do it justice. One small problem though. I wanted to "protect her" during the day so I slipped it into my front jeans pocket and about 5 hours later while leaning against something I felt a pop. Yep, I destroyed the back crystal. I wanted to cry. So I am gonna have to start looking for a size 18, Hamilton crystal that will fit a 1917 model 940. :( Watch is still just tickin along. Unfortunately I can see myself buying more pocket watches... :)

Very nice indeed.

There are plenty of crystals on the Bay - avoid the G-S ones as they are flexible and need a special tool.

Check this out. Punch in the serial number and click anywhere in the spread sheet and it will tell you the grade, run, other info. I have a nice 992B Hamilton 21J gold train in a salesman case running +-000 to 002. When you need another PW that is.... Nice pick up. If you want a site to buy acrylic crystals I can forward it to you.

Hey that is a neat online calculator. Too bad it doesnt tell me what size crystal I need.

And dont be tempting me to already add to the Hamilton collection!

There are a few NAWCC related database sites for pocket watches, and some of them have e-mails for submitting photos of pieces to the database - Waltham springs to mind.

BroncoSport, as you will inevitably be needing crystals for your future pocketwatches you may as well buy a crystal gauge for sizing :poke:
