A fashion brand trying very hard to be taken seriously as a watch company.

Their Masterpiece collection are serious pieces, although they have traditionally still been generic movements. They have recently joined the ranks of the manufactures and they are trying to eliminate one of the main criticisms of the brand - the presence of so many low end quartz watches in their range.

I personally have a tough time with the name, although I'll freely admit that is pure snobbery. What I would say is that there is a big difference between their high end and low end watches so just make sure that the deal is as good as you think it is.

I wouldn't say a "fashion" brand. A fashion brand to me, is something like Guess, or DKNY or etc who simply put their name on a watch someone else makes. Maurice Lacroix is like Oris or Tag, mid-grade Swiss watches.

I have noticed quite a few of these for sale lately on the forums. It is like there wholesale house is clearing them out. As previously stated, do a search on the watch you may be able to find it "new" cheaper than preowned...check it out before you buy.

I wouldnt say fashion brand at all, but I agree with Roff that the name sucks. It reminds me of an imitation name of a brand thats trying to sound expensive. As far as the actual watches go, the quality is good and they give you as much bang for the buck as anyone out there. That said, they arent a brand that interests me.

Maybe fashion is harsh, but you know what I meant.

In terms of clearing out the warehouse - in the US that's true, they are moving away from the lower end quartz (list prices of $800 - $1200 or so) and those things can be picked up for a song.

Well first of all, I used to have an ML!  And yep, it was of the low-end quartz variety - this in fact - http://www.worldofwatches.com/segf/Maur ... 2-120.html

To be honest it wasn't badly made, but I still can't for the life of me figure out why I bought it, as it ain't exactly a looker!

Anyway, I see Roff's (partially) retracted his "fashion brand" comment, because I agree with the other guys that ML isn't quite as lowly as DKNY or Guess watches for example, which are what I consider to be fashion brands. However, they aren't in Tag territory, although the new Masterpiece models present something of a conundrum, as they are actually damn good. Maybe in a few years when most people have forgotten about their past models (except misguided souls like me who bought a ML "Sphere" ), then perhaps they'll have a bit more respect in watch afficionado circles.

I think its always better to stay with brands like Breitling or IWC, panerais dont do it for me, and Rolex is Rolex. I prefer to have watches that are sort of unknown to people who dont know watches, Breitling and IWC are quality brands that many dont really know about. At the moment Im having my dads 1960 IWC watch being restored by an authorised dealer in Australia. When I get it I will post pics.

Recently purchased a ML moonphase tonneau shaped. Extraordinary quality in every respect. Outstanding leather strap and deployant. Case , dial, fit and finish all great. I don't know anything about early models, but this one is worth owning.

I have to say that the watches look very nice. I just hadn't had any experience with them. I didn't know anything about them. Post a few pictures if you have time. :D

after owning my ML for the last 8 months i must say its a great watch very comfortabe, also finish is exceptional. I was worried about the rectagular shape being uncomfortable but it completely wraps around the wrist like a glove.

and now they came out with this witch is suppose to be a world first. (to bad its out of budget!)
