Any suggestions for a nice watch box and where to get one from? I am looking for a nice wood finish and one with large enough compartments to keep larger sized watches.

Thanks.

I searched as hell for a custom leather watch box, but in the end had to give that up. I found leather craftmen that couldn't make what I wanted, major makers that only would take a minimum order of 50 boxes or makers that could get my order but at a jawdropping price.

In the end I just browsed what I could get from Amazon and got one there. Not exactly what I had set out for in the first place, but actually not that far away. And at a great price. Saved me some money to buy a JLC EWA. :)

Thanks for the reply. Amazon has a nice selection and the reviews certainly help to get an impression.

I also found a few interesting ones on here: http://www.watch-tool.de

My watch box is a bolted heavy duty, fire/acid proof safe.

P.S: To bad it didn't fit my Saleen rims which got stolen last week from my private locked locker. :(

I totally agree.

However, in one of the topics on this forum when you search for Rainer somebody said the box smelled very strongly of lacquer. It would be nice to get some more first hand experience reports.

Really? Well, lacquer smell does go over time (I had a watch winder a long time ago that smelt strongly of lacquer too), so for the cash I'd be prepared to put up with it for a bit.

But I agree about seeing them first hand. They definitely seem like great value.

These boxes are nicely made, I have the birch one with inlay on the corners. But the problem is that they smell so strong that my wife will not allow it anywhere near her. When its closed it isn't bad, but when you open it, it smells like you took the top off a gallon can of laquer thinner. Very bad. After one year, it still smells. I refuse to use it as I don't want my watches, especially those with leather, to absorb the odor.

Crickey, still smelling a YEAR later???? It must be some SERIOUS super lacquer they use!

Hmmmmm, maybe I won't try one after all............ although 59 Euro for a single is such good value it might be worth the gamble.

Note that the problem is worse when he opens the box. I bet that the solution for this is to leave it opened in the garage, basement, in front of an open window, etc. for a while. That's what I'd try before I sent ti back, to air it out.

Oh, and I agree, they look very nice.

Peace

Mike
