This will be my first time buying anything on ebay and I want to know if this offer is risky in terms losing money to a scammer.

http://cgi.ebay.ca/awesome-TICINO-47mm- ... 2c53cfa01a

I know its not much money to lose but money is money. Truth be told Im actually waiting for a steinhart 47mm pilot watch to come out in may which will many more hundreds of dollars. But if this watch keeps good time then all the better. Anyways opinions appreciated. Thanks

All looks fairly generic to me. Can't comment on the accuracy.

Here's the company's website:

Pictures and description seem to jive between ebay and the site.

Just make sure you're not from Italy

Never heard of the brand. Probably a made for eBay one. Final price seems to be around $150. Seller has 3500+ feedback and 100% so no scam going on!

This Unitas 6497 copy movement is the one used in a lot of manual wind replicas such as this Panerai.

Reputation as being a rock solid movement but don't expect COSC accuracy!

As long as you don't plan on shipping it to Italy!!!! Seems the seller does not like that country.

Essentially what is the difference between the watch from ebay and this one....

.....aside from the price. I dont think either of them are cosc cert. Do you see a difference between them???

Fit and finish...

The movement looks a lot more decorated on the Steinhart (blued screws, more refined looking plate finish).

There are some more interesting styling cues on the Steinhart as well. The combination of brushed case and polished bezel is striking. The blue accents on the dial are really nice as well..

Not so sure if it's worth the extra money but Steinhart is probably trying to upscale the peice by charging a bit more as well.

For starters, attention to detail and customer service will be better with Steinhart. I bet that if you held both watches in your hands, the answer would be obvious, but it might be impossible to tell from internet photos.

Peace

On Ticino's website it says a highly decorated movement with blued screws. Who knows if they actually are though. They could be just "blue" screws and not heated screws that turn blue.

I guarantee that if they are blue then they will be chemically blued - and that only blues the surface.

My two cents,,,I hate to buy inexpensive watches because I end up selling them and regretting spending the money. But with the way things are here in the Arizona Construction I have had to scale back on my luxury purchases. I have to say that being able to pick up a nice solid piece like the Steinhart for an everyday watch has been fun and has fed my addiction. They are relatively inexpensive and the quality is very good. I took the two that I purchased right out of the box put them on my digital timer and they ran well within excellent tolerance. +-003sec.... they must regulate every watch before they package it. Maybe next year for the "higher end" pieces. I'd try a Steinhart.

Aside from quality, the steinhart has an actual unitas movement and im guessing the other one has a cheap chinese copy.
