Rather than put this into the general Basel thread I thought I would give UN a separate thread here forsome more attention.

There is a current discussion in the Breitling forum about what we would like to see from Breitling in terms of direction, well looking at UN in recent years I'm forced to compare and see two companies going in completely opposite directions. UN has a higher average price for sure, but they are taking their heritage and evolving it in exciting new ways that result in some truly spectacular pieces. The latest freak with a tourbillon inside a tourbillon is mind blowing, but even among their 'normal' watches, they have what I think are some truly incredible pieces.

As a company they are really pushing the envelope with the use of silicon and even with little things UN is showing industry leadership - the ability to report a stolen watch online - these guys flat out get it. I wouldn't buy every one of their watches this year, but money allowing I wouldn't leave many out.

Marcus Hanke has done a great photo review from Basel at the Purists - http://basel.watchprosite.com/show-foru ... 98781/s-0/

The El Toro is amazing. Every square centimeter is a sight to behold.

Funny you should bring up UN Roff. I just received their product catalog in the mail a couple of days ago and have been pouring over it. Although a lot of their models are quite expensive for me I do like their Maxi marine chronometer and Maxi marine diver models. I like the power reserve complication on these more "basic" designs.

I would like to see Breitling add this feature to some of their models to spice things up, maybe even a display back with their new B01 movement.
Thanks for the new pictures. The new marine divers look nice.

Yeah the Marine Chronometer is really nice - the ivory dial is spectacular. The Executive Dual Time that they announced last year was spectacular - the gold / black combination really popped, but I think I prefer the lighter dial that they have introduced this year, and I prefer the SS to the gold so I definitely plan to see what that looks like on the wrist.

The El Toro is incredible in gold - although prices make that one a little less accessible. Even the hammerhead, while not that different from the blue surf looks like a different watch, and as for the grey dial on the Dual Time GMT........

Love the El Toro. What's the price tag?

Where did you order the catalogue, Kodiak? I couldn't find it on the UN webpage (or I overlooked it)?

Gold El Toro believed to be $40 - $45k, platinum nearer $60k.

Ha petty case.

What are the specs on the UN's? I like the look of them and now that they're being talked about a lot I'd like to know more - inhouse movements? I've just requested a catalogue.

Exactly why I was not very excited about them. Anything over 20K is Grail territory for me, and there are a number of watches that hold that position more deservedly, Patek Nautilus for example!

Interesting because the Nautilus holds no appeal for me. I can certainly appreciate the craftsmanship, but not styled for me.

@ Tim S - Yes, they are a manufacture these days.

I think we have established we have somewhat different tastes Roff

The Nautilus and AP Safari did not appeal to me either at first, but when tried on the wrist I found them to be quite spectacular! One down.....

chmre: On their website went to " distribution" menu, go to your country and it gives you an e-mail contact. I just requested catalog through e-mail, received it in about a week! Hope this helps.

Me too.

Thanks Kodiak. I thought that maybe I missed an online request form somewhere.
