As the title says, I'm looking for my next watch. I love my SA but would like something else. Something I can wear and not worry about so much. I have an orange monster as a beater, but I'm looking for a nice tool watch that looks good and can take a beating. I do have some parameters: 1. Must be a good size(46-50+mm) I'm a big guy and have no problem pulling it off. I would consider a seawolf, or herc. but that's as small I would go. 2. Reasonable Price ($1600 or less) This is not set in stone. 3. Bracelet only. 4. Steel prefered, but not a deal breaker. 5. Automatic prefered. Here are a couple of watches I'm considering Oris Small Seconds (47 mm steel) ![]() Tried this one on, but it wasn't on a bracelet. Fits smaller than I thought it would. Nixon 51-30 CHRONO (51 mm steel) ![]() These are very affordable, and fit my wrist nicely Oris oris regulateur der meistertaucher (49 mm Titanium) ![]() Same size as my SA, but much lighter. I'm sure I'd get used to it. I know some of you know some lesser known brands out there and would appreciate any suggestions. I would certainly buy used (I could really go for a white dial Herc) I plan on buying later this year, but I want to start doing some research now. I waited 5 months before deciding to buy my SA and I couldn't be more happier with my choice! Thanks in advance! |

Well if you want to consider a "lesser known brand", what about Muhle Glashutte? May not be quite big enough for you, and not all under $1,600, but only just returning to North America and good value. http://www.watchbuys.com/store/pc/muhle ... atches.asp |

Could look at Glycine. They have some models 46-53mm. I don't know much about them, looks like they use ETA 2824 in their models, Lagunare series. Good luck! |

I would seriously consider the Boschett Cave Dweller. Cool, tough watch. http://www.boschett-timepieces.com/pict ... weller.php Peace Mike |

Oris would get my vote with those criteria. The two models you've mentioned are great. If you're ok with used, maybe look for an Oris Carlos Coste LE (there were 2 models, a non-chrono and a chrono). I had the non-chrono, it was a great watch. Longines Hydroconquest would be another option. It comes in 47mm on a bracelet, but I don't know about the price. |

Otto- I really like that longines Hydroconquest. It's def. in the running! Thanks! Mikey- The cave dweller is a nice watch and if they had a bigger model I would consider it but 44 mm is just a little small for the watch I'm seeking. Thanks for your input. Roff- Muhle Glashutte seem nice, but are a little too far out of my price range. Thanks for the link! Kodiak- I really like the glycine kmu 48 and I'm considering it. Thanks for the help! Thanks for the ideas. Keep them coming! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

hi, just get the yellow dial seawolf ![]() ![]() If i had to those between the watches above i will certainly pic the regulateur 49 mm, this is a very nice timepiece ![]() And check the seiko ananta as well............., i saw one last weekend and put it on the wrist and i found it just stunning!!!!!!. They start with a retialprice at 1800 dollar i quess in the states and for this money it would be difficult to find a beater. I think my next watch will be a springdrive but not sure yet. ![]() Bryan |

Update: I got the go-ahead from the wife to get a watch. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I'm really leaning towards the Oris Regulator. Should have it in a month or so. If anyone has more suggestions, let me hear them. The same stipulations apply as far as style and budget are concerned. |

The funny things was, I was reading this thread in a reduced-size window on my PC, and as I was reading the first post I hadn't scrolled down to the pics...... but as I was reading, all I had in my mind was "Oris, Oris Oris"!! And lo and behold, Oris is your first choice! ![]() Both of those Oris models you have shown are great, and in actual fact I'm considering one of them myself as a new semi-beater. I'd love the Meistertaucher regulator myself (even the 44mm version with the quarter red bezel is very cool), but I'm having trouble overcoming my titanium phobia! ![]() There are plenty of other brands out there in that price range, but for me Oris is the hands-down winner on price and quality. For some reason I see them as a "poor man's Omega"...... and I don't mean that in a derogatory way at all. I like them..... A LOT! |
