Hi there everyone, I recently purchased an Omega Planet Ocean Chronograph with both a SS strap and a rubber one. Can you recomend the appropriate tool for changing the spring bars ? Also, should be old spring bars be discarded or used again (specific brand ) ? Finally can you recommend a good source for this tool ( in Canada ) ? Sorry for all the questions. Thank you in advance for your advice and guidance.

The SS bracelet for the PO is awkward to fit into the lugs, you need to have some way of depressing both sides of the springbar, there just isn't room to have it on an angle and wiggle it in that way. I've had an AD concede defeat on the job and send me to the Omega boutique, which had a special tool. I've also seen an AD scratch the lugs doing it.

Unless you're really good with a springbar tool, the best option I've found seems to be the Bergeon 6825 pliers - see part of the way down this page:

Not a cheap tool though :( .

I can't remember where, but I recall seeing on one the forums that someone made their own out of two standard springbar tools.

I kid you not. I gave mine bends so that they 'fit' but still are flexible enough to compress the spring bar. 'Not' easy, but works.

Edit: Try this at your own risk, i'm not responsible for any blunders or slip of tool.

No worries. :)

You can re-use the same spring bars, by the way. I've changed my PO from strap to bracelet and back again a few times, all on the one set of spring bars.
