Is it just me, or does this watch represent a real bargain? I just took delivery of No 045/333 – what a beautifully executed piece! The crown is every bit as impressive as an IWC Big Pilot, and the sandwich dial is sublime. The two bands are an exercise in juicy thick leather – first grade, no doubt about it. I’ve always loved the IWC Big Pilot, but felt it around 5 grand overpriced. This Steinhart is a great way to get a nice piece with similar style and quality. Sure, it’s not quite an IWC – but Jesus, there ain’t nothin’ else out there in a similar price bracket which comes close to any of Breitling’s premium models. Obviously, a Unitas 6497 can’t touch the IWC job – but apart from that, the Steinhart is right up there with a watch which costs twice an order of magnitude as much! Anyone who wants a super chunky Swiss mechanical which jumps over several price brackets should check these out - this has been the most positive "exceeding of expectations" I have ever had with a watch. Very cool in every way! |

It's not just you! ![]() viewtopic.php?f=6&t=15829&p=120504&hilit=LSE#p120504 I own an IWC Big Pilot too, and to be fair the BP is a much better watch, BUT at 21 times the price of the LSE, I'd certainly question whether it's 21 times better! The LSE really IS a superb bargain. |

For sure - it isn't an IWC. But interesting to see this watch has been noticed on this site before - certainly a piece which really stands out for that kind of money. |

Nice watch, and I also enjoyed seeing the pictures in your thread, Driver8. ![]() Learning about a company like Steinhart is one of the reasons I joined the forum. Never heard of them and it seems they are producing quality watches for good prices. I am already drooling over some of the models on their site. What does "sandwich dial" mean? And do any of you have anything else to add to my initial impression of Steinhart as representing great watches for a good value? Peace Mike |

The bottom layer is coated in SuperLuminova and then the top layer has cut outs for the numbers to allow the lume show through from below. It leads to much better lume and is something that Panerai is well known for. |

Sweet, thanks for continuing to educate a noob. ![]() I didn't notice the cut-outs in the dial, but now that you pointed it out, I can see the 'markings' are actually openings in the face. And I think I know the answer to this . . . the SuperLuminova in this watch is dark-hued under normal light but glows in dark conditions? I'm only used to seeing the pale yellow or green lume. Thanks again! Peace Mike |

WOW, that almost sounds like indirect praise of Panerai Roff. ![]() Could it be that your first Panny is not that far away ![]() |

No PAMs in my future Altair. Gymnasium wll clocks are for gymnasiums ![]() ![]() @ Mikey, there are a number of different colours of SuperLuminova, the different colours have different luminosity capability. Dark lume glows green at night. |
