I know there are countless watchwinder posts, but here is another one  Basically Im after a cheap winder that fit atleast two larger model watches. Any suggestions...? I was looking at one of these ; http://cgi.ebay.com/Dual-2-Watch-Winder ... 4ced96c10f Any experience with one of those ? Thanks

You'll most likely find that after a few months, it simply stops working. I used a cheap winder similar to the one you posted and was thoroughly disappointed in the durability. |

For the money, i believe a brookstone winder is the best bet. Avoid eBay for winders, i have two winders myself, one is a 8 watch winder from eBay, the other a double from Wolf. The Wolf winder works great, and i highly recommend them. eBay winders come from china, and you can see the mass production in the quality, they usually run quite loud and i feel like they will not last long. |

For the money, Wolf is probably going to be amongst the biggest bang for the buck winders |

I've said this numerous times on here over the years, but watch winders are a complete minefield.... and that is irrespective of what you pay. The more expensive ones are a total rip off IMO, and the cheaper ones cannot be expected to last that long without getting noisy. I've used winders by Rapport, Steinhausen and Official Time, and of those the OT (was and still is) by far the best, AND it's the cheapest.  I've recommended OT a few times on here as having a superb amount of "bang for your buck" (no-one listens though!   ), but that's not to say all will last as long as mine has. Maybe I've just been lucky with mine......Personally I found the Rapport to be very short-lived, ultimately noisy and reasonably expensive, and the Steinhausen to be unprogrammable and WAY too fast. If anything this just shows what a minefield these things are. It seems you can get lucky with cheap stuff, and unlucky with expensive kit.... and vice versa. My advice - buy cheap (as long as it's programmable and has rest periods in the cycle) and don't expect it to last forever. That way, if it does last you will be pleasantly surprised : and if it doesn't last then it's no biggy as it didn't cost much in the first place and you expected to have to replace it anyway. That is infinitely better IMO than buying one of the ludicrously expensive ones, expecting it to last for years on end, and being thoroughly p***ed off when it goes wrong (which in my experience it undoubtedly will). I use winders myself (out of necessity), but I have a very dim view of winders in general. |

I have a slightly different perspective than Driver8, having recently changed my philosophy. I haven't tried Official Time, they don't seem so readily available over here as in the UK, but I have decided to go with quality winders. If we are going to be completely objective then they aren't worth the money, but a decent warranty with a company that stands behind them and has a reputation to keep is worth something to me. I do agree with Driver8 that the industry in general is a rip off, but I have decided that I want metal mving parts instead of plastic and a heavier duty motor - if I have to pay for that then so be it. I also want something that can be repaired / have a unit replaced rather than chucking the whole thing I haven't yet been brave enough to shell out for a single large unit, but can see that I might in the future. |

Just a quick addition to my post above - I've only just checked out the winders on the links you guys provided in this thread, and OT winders are a fair bit more expensive than those, so in that respect, my recommendation of OT is not on a like-for-like basis. Sorry - I should've checked the links first!  But either, if you want to spend a bit more than at the real budget end, but a lot less than a comparable Rapport (and not even the cost of probably a single screw on a Buben & Zorweg!), then OT is quite a reasonable buy..... IMO!

on my recent London trip, harrods had a bube& Zorweg which double as a cigar humidor, and a wine/champagne cooler, with storage for barware! Nice! I think it was over $100,000 |
