I'm a huge Hublot fan! I'm looking to get a Big Bang sometime soon!

Hublot makes great watches, both in design and function.

A bit overpriced - that's got to be one of the biggest understatements so far this year

The problem that I have with Hublot is the same that I have with brands like AP - a huge amount of money for what is simply a fancy case. The movements are generic Swiss movements with some finishing so you aren't paying for anything special beyond the design, and that's just not enough for me.

Hublot have announced their first in house movement - HUB1240, and they do seem committed to in house movements under the UNICO name, although this year they are only targeting 1,000 units for the King Power watches. That might get me to take a closer look at the watches, although I suspect that the prices will jump still higher once they get an in house movement.

Yup, the prices are truly cardiac arresting.

When I was buying my SA in Dec, the AD let me play with this LE ceramic stealth Hublot which retails for about US$25,000 AFTER discounts...

And there lies my problem with them too - mega amounts of cash for a decorated ETA is not a good buy IMHO. In that respect you really are only paying for a name on a nice-enough case. And AP (especially the ROO's) are exactly the same in that regard.

Actually I remember reading an article on AP (which holds true to Hublot too), where they admitted that most people don't buy an AP for the movement! Personally I find that very odd, but there's clearly a market for that kind of thing.

I buy on looks. Idk a damn thing about what makes them tick, just as long as it tells me accurate time. I buy my cars on whats makes those tick. The watches are cosmetic in my life. I don't dive/fly/run track etc...

I have to disagree with some of you guys. I love Hublot and especially AP (they are my favorite brand so maybe that makes me a bit biased) and I think that whilst there prices are exorbitant, they should not be disregarded or scoffed at because of that, clearly there are enough people who feel the price is appropriate. Even if the movements in the Hublot or AP are not fully in-house movements, they are still well executed. Being a watch guy I do care about the movements but I do get the feeling the average owner of most mechanical watches could not care any less about the movement, but I digress. I don't feel you can deny the quality and craftsmanship in a Hublot or AP, or most all other top-tier watch brands; they are cosmetically immaculate for the most part, and they contrive watches that puts Breitlings and Rolexes to shame (and as we know they are amazingly finished).

I suppose I look at it this way to make sense of their pricing relative to their quality: are they five to ten times nicer than a Breitling, no probably not, but do any watches of lower prices rival them in their overall quality, probably not. They certainly aren't the best value but I do feel the price shouldn't make people dislike them. I certainly can't afford a $30k Hublot or $100K AP RBII, but I do feel they are amazing timepieces.
