Obviously there is no where else I can ask this question but @ Breitling forum!!

Been seriously looking at the 2 watches a LOT. Still cannot seem to make up my mind on which one I would be happier with.

The Panerai 305 is 47mm, Ti, 300m rating & has an exhibition back:

The Rolex DSSD is 43mm but, well... it's a DSSD, damit!!

And no, I cannot just "get both"!

Thanks in advance for ur opinions!!

Rolex. I really do not like PAMs. That Rollie really is striking in its presence in person. Pics do not do it justice.

I would say the Deep Sea. I would really like to get a Panerai but prefer a different style. I was very close to getting the DSSD- had my AD get from another store so I could see how it looked on me. I was very close to buying it but...

SDDS for me too. I like Panerai a lot, but between these two the Rolie has it beaten fair and square as far as I'm concerned, for four main reasons.

Firstly the Panerai is titanium which immediately counts it out for me. (OK, my dislike of ti is a personal thing, but these are my reasons).

Secondly, the technology in the SDDS to make it WR to 3900m is worth the money alone. That depth rating makes it a proper diver's watch!

Thirdly, while they both have in-house movements, the Rolex is tried and tested : the Panerai isn't. I hope this new(ish) 3 day movement is going to be fine, but I've heard a fair few stories of appallingly bad timekeeping associated with the 10 day movement found the in 270, and also of a few problems with the 8 day manual wind in the 233. I can also attest to pretty poor timekeeping from the 7 day in-house in my BP (which was all the more annoying as it started off keeping really great time when I first bought it! ). This poor timekeeping may primarily be associated with the longer power reserve movements of course, but either way, the simple fact is that newer movements just haven't been around long enough for all the issues to be ironed out. The Rolex movement has been around for ever, and while it's not necessarily the most cutting edge anymore, it's bulletproof and reliable.

And lastly, while Panerai make some extremely classic pieces that can command huge resale prices, I still think you will struggle to beat a classic Rolex diver for standing the test of time style-wise.

Rolex SDDS all the way.

I had a similar dilemma, except, I was considering a 312 and not a 305. The PAM submersibles take some getting used to and I like the steel ones better, like a 24.

I ended up getting both. I love the 312. So far the P.9000 movement has kept great time. The styling is like nothing else. I just got the SDDS, and it is also gorgeous and has a ton of wrist presence.

But in this case, I'd probably go for the SDDS. But look at the 312. The 1950 styling is really cool.

I dont think I could pull off 47mm, but if I could id take the PAM. I tried the DSSD on a few weeks ago and it really just didnt do anything for me. It seemed disproportionately thick, and didnt really sit well on my wrist. The new bracelet and clasp are great though.

EDIT: BTW, before I went in and saw the DSSD, I was really expecting to love it.

Not a fan of either, but if it's out of these two, I'd take the Rolex. I'm not big on Panerai subs, and although I can respect the technological achievement in the Deepsea I was underwhelmed when I tried one on, for the same reasons as RJ. It didn't feel right on my wrist at all.

not a big fan of either marques I'd say those are my favorites from each. The pam subs are intriguing, never tried one on but the pam 25 has caught my eye....I would vote pam in this case

Thank u all for ur opinions. Tell u the truth I am surprised how many prefers the DSSD. I chose a Sub Pam because to me it somehow has more "in common" w the aesthetics of a Ling (my first love), compared to standard Lumi or Rad. I am surprised that most of Ling owners here do not see the same aesthetics as I do, I guess.

I do love the design & technical accomplishment of e DSSD. BUT (and this is a biggie for me), I really do prefer bigger & chunkier watches, and have real concern that I may not have as much on-e-wrist love as on pics because of the small(er) size.

Thanx again for all of ur opinions & thoughts. I need to go back to e ADs & try em on longer. If only I can find BOTH at e same AD!
