What a fantastic watch, I saw pics and heard the hype but I never got it untill I saw it and handled the watch. The finish, dimensions, sense of depth and over all design are just pure perfection. This is by far my current favorite watch displacing the almighty VC Overseas. In fact this is the only watch I have ever seen that I would not change a thing on, well maybe the price tag ![]() My favorite out of them all was the RG I had posted earlier but this new Safari model in SS is actually much nicer. The dial is not white, a kind of off white creamy dial with its own sense on motion due to the amazing level of detail on the dial. On a brown croco strap with contrasting white stiching and it looks like perfection embodied. In that color combo it is dressy enough for me and elegant yet sporty. The SS model is actually whithin the reach of possibility though definately not this year (Conquering the worlds of PAMs and Grand Seikos right now) Anyway, some pics (you have to see it in person though) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Looks like a pretty nice piece. The only thing is (and I'll be honest but I've not personally ever handled one), AP Royal Oaks always seem a little small for the styling though. I always expect them to be around 45mm and upwards, but they are only around 39 to 40mm if I remember rightly. As I say I've not personally handled one, but the size (oh and the price tag! ![]() |

Sorry, does nothing for me. It seems 'messy' - a bit like most Japanese cars - there's some bits wot work (in terms of style or design) individually, but as a whole it just doesn't fit - IMHO |

i don't know that is a pretty nice looking watch to me, except i don't like the color of the strap that much. maybe thats another one of those things you actually have to see in person. just out of curiousity how much does one of those run? |

Actually that model is 44MM. some are even 46 and 48MM. Never heard of a 40MM Offshore. You can get one for about 14K USD. Ian, have you seen one in person? |

That series of AP is not for me... I just don't get along with the rough octagonal shape. But luckily personal opinions vary, creating diversity. Altair - what did you get for yourself on your trip? Quite curious! |

Nothing at all, I had intended on getting a PAM or maybe even a Grabd Seiko Spring Drive but the prices were not to my liking so I decided to wait untill my local AD gets them in. |

Yeah the non-Offshore models are not to my licking either, great watches just not for me. |

Couple of days ago, I had a russian customer, a heavier massive man, wearing a Royal oak with power reserve roségold with roségold bracelet. That was a really impressive watch. Also fitting perfectly to that man. Only sad thing was, that he only bought a Tissot... BG Thomas |

Sorry, missed the question. No I've never seen one in person - and this is very good reasoning. I have purchased watches 'unseen' (in terms of never having had them in my hands) and aside from the GMT llc and my Panerai 253, I've been often disappointed. The 270 I've ordered I have actually handled, but the Navitimer World I've only seen in pictures...time will tell. The reason I say it does nothing for me is just that - at least with the other watches I've purchased without seeing, I've been motivated - this leaves me cold, quite frankly - technological considerations not withstanding. If I get no buzz from a photo, I have to assume I don't really like it. Of course, I know that I'm in a minority of one, so I accept that someone, somewhere loves the thing to death - good for them - I'm pleased it makes them happy. |

Well thats just the thing, on paper a Hamilton Khaki Chrono and an IWC Double Chrono both look awesome, you would not understand the price difference. Now handel them both personaly and read about their differences and you start to "get it" As far as I am concerned, online pics only give me a general idea about the design scheme. I have loved watches I saw online then hated them in real life and vice versa. As far as I am concerned I would not rule out any watch from pictures alone, extremes not withstanding (such as a pink dial or an hour hand shaped like a penis) Anyhoo, if you find yourself in the city you might want to drop by an AD and check out the Offshores and Grand Seikos if available. Thats how I discovered Panerai..... |

On a side note, let me express my gratitude and apreciation to everyone who noticed that little unfortunate typo and had the willpower to let it slide. No I do not usually lick watches I like. That would be awkward at meetings. |
