Can't say I really pay attention to the guy very much, but I stumbled across this article in the NYT:

Interesting read, I like his passion. It sertainly makes it a little easier when you have a Bank balance as big as his as well :D

douche...read on the P board panerai put him on the list for the 203 and after getting it he promptly sold it. never liked the guy and he lived down to my expectation after reading that story.

I always thought he was mainly a Rolex Guy. I had read somewhere that he had a Cutomized Daytona. Altho I have seen him with a vintage Newman as well as Explorer and a Submarnier.

I never thought much of the guy until I heard him Blaze his Strat at Eric Clapton's Bday Party, the guy can play......

I also never thought much of him until he playd Human Nature at Michael Jackson memorial. Now I bought tickets for my gf and I to go see him in Feb! Can you post a link to him playing at Eric Claptons Bday Party?

Mayer's received a bad stigma because his first couple albums were very "poppy" and appealed more to teenage girls than anyone else. He's said in many interviews that it was his record company that forced him into that style of music, but his true passion has always been jazz/blues. He was able to make an album called "Try!" with a band dubbed the John Mayer Trio, which was very bluesy. As you can imagine, it didn't sell very well. I think his more recent albums, like "Continuum," were able to mesh the best of both worlds of blues and mainstream pop.

I've seen him perform twice. He'll sing his big songs, but he'll add a 4 minute solo jam session to all of them, which makes it much more enjoyable. Kind of reminiscent of Dave Matthews Band live. He's an incredible guitar player. I'll go as far as to say he's in the top 25 off all guitar players ever. I'd personally put him in the top 10, but I think anyone who has any knowledge of guitar would have to put him at least in the top 25. I've also met him in person. He's a strange guy, slightly awkward at times, but seems nice enough.
