Im wondering what you all think.
Im looking to buy a beater watch. Im an artist (sculpture) and work with lots of dust and hard materials. Banging my watch against things is a daily occurance here.
I cant see using one of my precious Breitling watches in the workplace no matter how tough it might be. I have tryed but find myself concious of my watch the whole time.

I have looked at casio, swatch, and a whole list of less expensive watches. I dont like the look of these on my wrist. Yesterday I discussed the problem with my AD and he advised Hamilton. for around 600 euro I can pick up a nice skeleton on rose plated SS, leather strap. Its a nice piece but not too expensive to worry about.

What are your thoughts on Hamilton?
thanks,
pete

My first thought is, do you really need to have a watch on your arm while sculpting? I'd get one of those airport/dealer Breitling clocks instead, put it on the wall and then you can have a glance every now and then while sculpting away.

That Hamilton still sounds like it might be a bit too nice for that sort of treatment. But if you like it, why not go for it. There's nothing wrong with Hamilton at all, as far as I'm concerned.

I have a pair of carbon-cased quartz Luminoxes which I use for any situation where I don't want to risk the others. They're a good size (44mm), look good but very light and comfortable.

Tissot make some pretty good cheaper watches. They all seem to have sapphire crystals which would be a big factor on a watch that gets bashed. Their stainless steel is good quality, but the titanium alloy they use seems too soft and marks very easily.

I just looked at some Ball watches this weekend, they very well made given their price point. Seem to use a lot of ETA movements

When I think beater watch I automatically think of G-shock watches. Although not quite the best looking watch in the world, they are quite functional (especially the atomic versions) and have gotten better looking. I'm also pretty sure it will endure whatever abuse you may put it through.

Alternately I really like some of the trendy fashion watches out there from guys like Oakley, Kenneth Cole and Fossil. Cheap, crappy, functional. Wear for 3-4 years, get tired of it, then donate to charity and buy a new trendy one.

Or if you can find a Tag Professional Quartz... something from the 90's... maybe a used one perhaps?

I have one myself and that thing is a tank~!

Hi, I think one is supposed to take good care of the watch but in your case, sports watch can work or simply do not wear a watch while working.
