I was shopping with my girl friend today and wondered into the AD, they had a watch company called BALL. I tried a few on and must say they were fantastically good quality especially this one : http://basel.watchprosite.com/show-nblo ... ti-361682/ thought i would see what you guys thought of the company? |

They are probably best known for the tritium tube lume. I like some of their watches, and value isn't bad - though the resale market is tough for them. They are generic movements so go into it understanding that, and also recignise that the lume, while extremely bright, will age (unlike Super Luminova). |

cheers Roffensian! always love what people have to say about other brands. The thing that interreges me with the watch i have linked to is how the creator says that he doesn’t like watch brands that stick a load of jews into a watch to make it sound more like a quality product, the reason for the increase of jewls in this watch (49) is purely for good time keeping and so that any part that needs to be kept in tip top working order is taken cere of... wich, i feel, shows a bit of thought! Also the unusual chronograph (only goes up to 45mins) is quite a interesting feature aswell as the modification to move the second hand so that it is positioned to the right is nice. The styling is VERY nice to ![]() I am seriously thinking of taking a 2nd look! |

I wrote a brief article on jewels a while back - viewtopic.php?f=6&t=10320 The benefits of 49 jewels in this watch are dubious at best. I'm sure that there is friction at the points that they are used, but whether jewels will do anything to improve the movement is another matter. Still, it doesn't hurt. The movement is essentially an ETA 2824 with 25 jewels, and I honestly think that's enough. |

I've owned several Ball watches, all purchased on the resale market. I think they make a great watch and generally exhibit quality above that of comparably priced watches. As Roff says, the resale market isn't easy on Ball's which is why they represent such a great value if purchased pre-owned. They make some fantastic bracelets, and the crown guards on the Hydrocarbon line are very well executed. Mark |

For me the quality of these watches is very good. I have two myself a present, a 2009 Fireman, which looks good on the bracelet or strap, and a brand new Spacemaster which has just been released. Lume on both these is fantastic. I think the Fireman will be sold soon, but another Ball is calling me, so I need the funds. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

i had a fireman ii. Lume was good with the Tritium, and build quality was nice. My problem with it was that the Tritium just didn't speak to me as I thought it would have. I ended up reselling it for about 65% of retail. Not great, but not too bad, but again it took me about 2 weeks to sell it. |
