I have a chance to pick up a brand new BP for a pretty good price, but I'd have to sell at least 3 of my collection (probably the IWC and two of the Omegas) to do it, and I'd still need to make up the difference with cash.

Interested to hear what people think - would you do it? (D8 and Jay - I think I already know what you guys are going to say :) )

Well, you know me when it comes to parting with watches.......

A 3 for 1 trade is a big step, and I think it would have to come down to how badly that you want the BP. If it is a grail watch that has become obtainable due to the deal that's on offer then go for it. If it's simply an offer that seems too good to pass up on a watch that you otherwise wouldn't have seriously considered then I would say that you need to give it some pretty serious thought before committing.

Sage advice as always Roff, thanks.

I'm thinking hard about it, and I suspect it might come down to how much I can get for the nominated 3, because I still love them and I'm not about to let them go for liquidation prices.

To clarify, the BP is definitely a grail watch. I've looked at JLCs, Panerais etc, around the same price point, and they're great but they don't do it for me like the BP.

How badly do you want the BP Otto? It sounds like a great deal now and if you want it badly enough go for it. However the BP will always be there and if you can get a good deal now then there's no reason why you couldn't get a good deal in say 12 months when you may be financially better off i.e. may not need to trade 3 watches to buy 1.

The 3 watches you're looking to sell are very nice, will you miss them? If you're over them then that's an easy one.

Personally I wouldn't sell 3 quality watches to buy 1, I'd wait until I had the funds to own 4, even if it is a grail  But that's only me.

I wish you the very best of luck!

Go with the BP mate - you will not regret it. :)

What price are you able to get this BP for? (PM if necessary)

I'd say go for it. A watch like the BP is going to hold its value pretty well, so if in a little while you decide it wasn't such a good choice you can just sell it back on and buy back the original watches, which will have only gone down in value.

Funnily enough I'm going to say go for it! :D The BP is a fine watch and if you've already got the urge to sell your other three to get it then that's probably all the persuading you need!

I honestly think this is an answer you can only get from within. Nobody can tell you whether this is a good or bad idea, as we all have different preferences and affinities to watches. At that pricepoint, we have all thrown sound logic and reason out the window and are operating on emotion, and only you can say whether there is enough emotion attached to the BP to sacrifice the others.

Good luck with your choice, and post pics if the BP wins!

Thanks for the comments guys. I still don't know, to be honest. I've done my sums and I don't know if I can get enough for the other 3 to make it feasible - I'll probably have to put in something like AUD5k cash as well, perhaps more - the strong AUD at the moment means it won't really be possible to sell my watches to overseas buyers for a reasonable price.

I definitely want the BP, but I don't know if I want it enough to sacrifice the others. Doesn't help that I'm wearing the PO today and liking it!

The PO is worth about $1800-2000 USD, the Seamaster Chrono about $1500-$1800 USD and the 3717 about $3000 USD.

Collectively about $7000-7500 AUD MAX.

I replied to your PM about the BP.. whatever you do, dont buy it at the price your talking about. You can get one much cheaper.

I'm in a similar position - theoretically. I found a BP today (in Japan, that is) for a very reasonable price - brand new from an AD. If I would sell something in the watch box then it wouldn't carve too much out of the watch budget.

So what's the problem? Well, when I left Sweden (for what then looked as two years - ie one more year) I send all the watchboxes and paperworks into storage, pretty convinced that I wouldn't need them during two years and also, I had no intention of watch rotation and they were a bit too bulky to bring overseas. I regret that now...

Hopefully I find the BP in the same spot in a few months time, when the financial situation would be a lot better for me.
