After watching the video post that Rick posted, it got me very interested in a minute repeater piece...I have a few grandfather clocks in the house and this just speaks to me as a timepiece.
I've never really looked into them, but was wondering if these are usually reserved for more high end ($$$) watches or are there some really nice "affordable" minute repeater watches out there?
Would love to hear some recommendations of brands and models to look into...
But, please keep them in the more reasonable price range.

Sorry, affordable and minute repeater don't go together.

The only thing that I can think of is a Campanola - high end Citizen, and that's quartz.

In terms of mechanical Ebel make a 5 minute repeater for about $15,000, but no modern minute repeater that I can think of with a Swiss movement for anything close to reasonable.

A vintage pocket watch is likely the cheapest option - but even then you are going to need several tens of thousnads of dollars.

I've got a vintage quarter reapeter's pocket watch and if you open
the back there's an automate with two chinese doing kamasutra as the watch
ring. (everything mechanical, off course.)

I am not very attached to this piece, make me an offer, I can send you pic.
and will think about it.

Hello Roffensian,

This repeater was made by the swiss brand Kelek, are you familiar with this brand ? They start in 1896 and Breitling rebuy the manufacture. (When, I don't know.)

It is dated from the 70' s, I still have the original advertisement, that I found in a book and they called them " Montre polissone". That I can scan if you're interested.

Anyway, when I got this pocket watch ( in a silver case ), everything was working, but
the amplitude was low and needed some fresh oil. I pull everything apart and haven't got the time to put everything back together.

If you are still interested, I can finish the complete overhaul in december, when I will be back from my training, send you pics, video etc... so maybe you will be able to have it for christmas
hehehe.

regards,

K.

I'm familiar with Kelek.

So it's a five minute repeater rather than a quarter repeater - i.e. rings one or two five minutes periods after it rings the quarters?

Definitely interested, although it's a bit modern for me. PM me when it's in saleable condition and in the meantime I will research.

The only affordable (cheap?) Minute repeater I think is Citizen calibre 9000 quartz costs about $600 USD. Cheaper than Campanola minute repeater. :D

Yeah I forgot that Citizen put that in the Citizen brand - same movement as some of the Campanola's if I remember correctly.

I guess Nivrel makes some affordable mechanical minute repeaters. Look here:

Anybody have any experience with Nivrel?

Only problem with that is that it's not a minute repeater, it's a 5 minute repeater - big difference in dollar terms.

Nivrel is a solid brand, under appreciated with some fairly well known watchmaker backing.

Roffensian, you really should check out the watch auctions (held by the larger Swedish auction houses) in Sweden. At every auction I've seen so far there's been at least one pocket watch, 18K, savonette, minute repeater in very good shape and the price range of approx $2000 - $4000.

Hmmm, that sounds dangerous.

That's definitely 5 minute repeater money so if I can get a true minute repeater for that I am definitely interested.

Thanks for the tip aleister.
