New B-uhr replica with a twist http://www.steinhartwatches.de/index.ph ... _ID=18#194 Just a quick note, this is notcomparable in anyway to the many B-Uhr hommage watches out there from Sinn, Laco, or IWC. Those are modern watches with modern movements reinterpreting the original design. The B-Uhr replica is a remake of the original and a totally different concept. I actually just bought a limited edition (one of 200, pics to come) german remake of the B-Uhr and quite like it, very simple and to the point (German case, swiss movement) almost exactely like the original with the exception of the smaller size (47MM in this case) I always liked the brown dial idea and obviousely like big simple dials (IWC BI/BP, PAMs, B-Uhr replicas etc) I am just not sure about the bead blasted titanium case. It is cheap enough to give a go with little risk. |

Steinhart are very good watches. I have an Aristo (another ETA 2824 made in Germany outfit) B-Uhr styled watch which was incredible value at about £100. Only 41mm which suits my skinny wrist! I really like this styling but I do think B-Uhr have to be black though! |

Don't have any experience with the brand, but that watch does look good. I actually don't mind the colour. |

Looks like good value but, like you Altair, I'm not totally sure about the bead-blasted finish.  Personally I prefer the look of this one - http://www.steinhartwatches.de/index.ph ... l_ID=18#13And I'm obviously more than a bit partial to the IWC version........ admittedly at about 22 times the price!!

No comparison with the IWC, the BP is at least 22 times better in every way. Here is a picture from a new owner of the 44MM version  Have to say that looks pretty good for about 500 USD! |

I'm with you D8, I prefer the brighter brushed finish. I have the Nav-B 44mm that you linked to but mine has the Debaufre name on it. Super nice watch for the money and the strap alone is worth at least $100. When I look at the Nav-B while my PAM 11 is nearby, I question the sanity of owning the 111, as it isn't much different in feel or build quality tha the Nav-B. |

I don't know about that Mark, I have seen the Nav B Chrono in person and while a nice watch and a tremendous value it was laking in many ways. The cut and finish of the dial and hands was ok at best, the lume was poorly and unevenly applied under close inspection and the case construction was pretty mediocre. Can't say I can compare it to a Breitling or Panerai. Still, you usually get what you pay for but in this case you get allot more so those flaws can be overlooked since the price point is so low. Could make a great beater watch and scratch my brown dial itch in a wallet friendly way. Will let you guys know what I think when I get it. |

Thanks for the link! I really like the looks of that one, and going through their website, a lot of other interesting ones as well. The brown with the brushed stainless and the leather strap they provide is great, but I really like the looks of that Limited Edition one in the box the best! I had not heard of this brand before, and will keep checking it out with interest. Cheers, Carl |

Now you really have me going! I think this one is my favourite: http://www.steinhartwatches.de/index.ph ... _ID=26#182 I am intriqued by the case. The watch is designed after a ship's chrononmeter, and the case is stainless steel, brushed / 10 MICRO bronze. I am not really familiar with this. I do really like bronze, and often wished that I would see it in a watch. But I think it is just a bronze coating, and would probably wear off over time. Can anyone shed any light on this? The thing I like about these watches, too, is the simplicity with no date window and a clean dial with great looking roman numerals, some of the models have blued hands as well. Only thing is the large sizes at 47 and 44mm, although the bezels on most are pretty narrow, so I think they would wear smaller. Cheers, Carl |

Hi Carl, I'm pretty sure that the bronze would be plated, so it'd be just as likely to wear as gold plate of PVD unfortunately. Like you I'd love to see a few more manufacturers using solid bronze cases in watchmaking. In fact I've only ever come across one manufacturer (although the name escapes me now), and it looked very VERY cool. One thing though - I think you'd probably find that a thin bezel will actually make the watch wear larger than it's nominal size would suggest. A case in point for me would be my Big Pilot vs my Bentleys. The BP is 46mm, while the Bentleys are over 48mm and yet the thin bezel on the BP accentuates the size of the dial and hence makes it wear even bigger IMHO. |

Yes, Anonimo was exactly who I was thinking of! They've definitely made more than one model and I reckon bronze is a great looking metal for a watch. I've said it before a long time ago, but I sometimes wish manufacturers would be a little more daring at times - - Bronze looks great. - Tantalum is a superb blue/grey colour and can look very handsome both as brushed and polished (as used once by Panerai). - Tungsten is INCREDIBLY hard, heavy and scratch resistant and can be polished to a superb dark shine. I've seen a few watches made of tungsten, but nothing by the "big boys". But then I also think the under-utilisation of ceramics and carbon is a bit of a shame too. As they say variety is the spice of life! |

Hi Altair, I wasn't implying that they were equal, maybe I didn't word my response well. But when you look at the watch, in my case the Unitas Nav-B Uhr 44mm, the case the dial layout, then flip it over and see a nice display back housing the same base movement, on a thick well made strap... you have to wonder why my PAM111 cost $3K more? That was my point. My Nav-B is flawless in quality. I'm not bashing the PAM, I own one. Its just that if you really look at the two watches objectively, putting the brand aside, I doubt anyone can really justify the price difference. This is more of a compliment to Debaufre than it is a criticsm of Panerai. |
