I noticed that so many Youtubers will repond with comments like "This is a fake".. without any knowledge of watches.. I just had a long conversation with a guy who claims to be the KLM Airlines Employment Director or somesuch, and he got quite agitated with me because I kept asking him to prove why he thought my dad's Rolex president day-date was fake.. some "watchmaker" joined in and said that Rolex doesn't make a watch with the day at 12 o'clock and I kind of laughed and tried to figure out how a watchmaker can be so stupid. Anyway, this KLM guy got so agitated with me (i was pushing his buttons intentionally, maybe i was a bit of a dink) that he ended up swearing at me. I couldn't help myself because the guy is obviously a douche. I told him to come here and discuss it with people that are knowledgeable... but he's like "no life is not about watches" but then he really gets into it and starts swearing. Why do people get like this? Check out the Rolex Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uKkaSzQKRvY |

I'm guessing the guy is just a loudmouth kid... he insults like an North American though.. not like a Scandinavian person. Maybe an ex-pat. This is far from the first time that someone has just chimed in and said "That is fake" without any sort of proof or supporting evidence. At least with the Rolex thread some previous posters made some comments and used supporting evidence which they thought was correct, but was false due to changes Rolex made over the years. |

breitlingsource wrote: Why do people get like this? While you can find lots of excellent, informative videos on YouTube if you find the right channels, the comments are in general of very low quality. Maybe it's just that a significant portion of people who comment on vids are wackos. ![]() I very rarely read comments under YouTube vids. |

That's true. I think I might just delete the entire conversation though, it dirties up the video. |

I don't even read the comments because most of them are just plain dumb. YouTube's "community" is so large that they don't police the site properly, and IMO, you should have a choice as to whether or not you want people's comments to follow the video. Anyone who really knew what they were talking about would be much more civil and provide links to show why it was a fake. Unfortunately, consider it a lot of wasted energy on someone who seeks the wrong kind of entertainment ![]() |

I think that one of the key differences between places like this and YouTube is that people tend to only post here if they really have an interest - they register specifically because of a watch interest. However on YouTube people will register because of an interest in watching videos and then it takes no effort to comment on anything whether they know what they are talking about or not. Add to that the fact that some people just like stirring things up and it's no surprise (to me) that there are such uneducated comments. At least on here most of the abusive comments are by PM ![]() |

Yeah, YouTube is pretty much the lowest of the low when it comes to online discourse. Great content to be had, but not in the "comments." Mostly kids with too much time on their hands. breitlingsource wrote: some "watchmaker" joined in and said that Rolex doesn't make a watch with the day at 12 o'clock and I kind of laughed and tried to figure out how a watchmaker can be so stupid. I am amazed at the lack of knowledge some watchmakers have. I mean, salespeople amaze me, too, but you expect a slightly higher standard from a watchmaker. My wife just took her Michael Schumacher LE Speedmaster to a local Omega dealer (a jewelers from whom we have bought many items in the past...we have always been very pleased with them). This is an absolutely genuine watch that is completely and totally identical to every Speedmaster Reduced that was sold around 1998-1999 (plenty of pics available on the web) with the exception of the special "Schumacher" yellow dial, which is a well-known special edition. The watchmaker looked at it for 2 seconds and proclaimed it was a fake because "Omega would never make a dial like that," "the bracelet is not an Speedmaster bracelet" and "I have never seen a caseback like that on a Speedmaster." We pointed out:
2. We have the original bill of sale, the Omega warranty certificate with matching serial number, the original Omega case (a special case just for that particular LE), the LE certificate and documentation, and a certified appraisal. 3. She was welcome to open the caseback and verify the movement. She still refused to touch the watch and demanded that we have them send it to Omega to be authenticated. And this person is a watchmaker at an Omega AD!! That very store sold that exact model 10 years ago!!! I wish we had purchased the watch from them...then I really could have thrown a fit. "WHAT!? YOU SOLD ME A FAKE?!!!" ![]() Wow. --M |

It indeed was a kid... most of you guys missed the juiciest part of the insults which Driver8 saw, where he told me "my effin' mother pulled it out of my effin' grandma behind" but in much more colorful language. Turns out the guy is not an employment manager at KLM.. his dad is. Right then I realized I was just dealing with a kid with too much time on his hands. |
