Post subject:  The tachymetre
Just curious to get the thoughts of some others on this one. I don't like a tachymetre on a watch. I don't think it's at all useful. They're intrusive, ugly, and unnecessary, but for some reason they're on a lot of high-end watches.

Do you like a tachymetre on a watch? If your watch has one, do you actually use it for anything?

I'd be interested to hear (read) some other opinions.

I happen to like them on my breitlings. The styling to me anyway looks great and I love toying with them and I keep being surprised when they work. Just amazing, but I love toys and things to play with. However I also find many watches that catch my eye and probably will be part of my growing collection soon. Thats why I love choices. If everyone liked the same thing it would be a very blah world... To answer your question though I don't use mine for anything important though. Maybe one day, but I have to be honest it won't be today. :oops:

To take a slightly different approach to this question........

All the time people want big watches there will be tachymetre or similar scales. Watch movements are made in the small / midsize range to provide flexibility - companies want to be able to use the same movement (or at least the same base movement) in multiple models. That means that complications will be in the same place relative to the centre of the watch regardless of watch size - a subdial on a 40mm watch will be just as far from the centre wheel arbor as on a 49mm watch that uses the same movement.

As a result watch companies have to put something on the outside to 'fill' the space and unless you want huge numbers or a huge bezel, both of which tend to give a watch an unbalanced look, you will have these 'space fillers'.

Of course they are also aesthetically pleasing to many people - same argument as a chronograph really, most buyers don't 'need' one.
