Post subject: | Omega Railmaster on the way! |
Hi Folks, Sorry I haven't been posting for awhile. Not that I lost interest, but just taking a break I guess and pursuing a new job as well. Anyway, I got an Omega Aqua Terra with new Caliber 8500 about 6 months ago, with the Teck Grey dial, and it is absolutely gorgeous. I did post many photos of it. At the time I was waiting for it, I happened to be at another AD just browsing. I saw a Railmaster 36mm with stainless bracelet on it, which for some reason I fell in love with. For some time, I had been looking for a simple watch, easy to read, with no date on it. I was seriously considering at some point getting a Panerai, but the stigma attached to it (at least, in my view) and the unavailability of an appropriate AD in Vancouver, not to mention the price, kind of put me off. When I saw this Railmaster, and tried it on, I fell in love. I really love the Aqua Terra, for it's beauty and technology, but the Railmaster I have to say is my favourite of the two. At the time, I simply could not afford it as well. Fast forward to six months later, I went back last week and it's still there! The AD is awesome, and I had promised that if I ever get a Railmaster I would get it there. I put a deposit on it, and will pick it up in a week or so. You can't really get an idea of the size in this pic off the Omega website, but it's pretty small. It is very comfortable, and I have tried on the 39mm and the 42mm as well, but the small one appeals the most. I suppose the nostalgia that goes with it, at one time in the 50's and 60's that was almost considered a big watch. I am very much looking forward to the day when I pick this up! ![]() Cheers, Carl |

Congrats Carl! Looks like you have found a real home with Omega. Hope the wait doesn't seem too long! |

I have really been looking long and hard these past 6 months, as I have been waiting to get the funds to make my next purchase. I also did some research on the Rolex Air-King, again a smaller (34mm) case that I find very appealing, due to it's simple lines and no date window. It still didn't appeal like the Railmaster. I was absolutely stunned when I tried on the 36mm. I never thought I would go down to that size of watch. As I mentioned in other posts, the stigma attached to the Panerai, especially the lack of availability, has really turned me off. Probably about a week to go until I can fund my new Railmaster ![]() Had I not already put a deposit on the Aqua Terra at the time, I likely would have gone for the Railmaster. I was out last night, wearing the Aqua Terra, and was very disappointed at how illegible the dial was. I am going to wait until I get the Railmaster in a week or so, and see how much wrist time it gets. While I love the looks of the Aqua Terra, the practical side of not being able to read the time easily is a real turn off. The 2009 Seawolf is really an excellent every day watch for me. The raised bezel on the Breitling models is great for protecting the crystal and the case I find, especially where I work. Cheers, Carl |

Hey Spartan, Thanks for the thought! I really do like the Air King. I didn't know they made one with the date. Still, the one you sold looks simple enough that it would appeal to me. However, the Railmaster is the one I really want, so I'm very happy about it. For some reason, when I put on the 36mm it just feels like it belongs on my wrist. Cheers, Carl |

Cheers, Carl Well, I had an interesting trip over to Nanaimo on Vancouver Island today, to visit an old friend. Her husband and good friend of mine passed away a few years ago. Anyway, we started talking about watches, and turns out she has a 70's Perpetual Oyster of his, real small case I would say maybe 34mm like the Air King. Also with no date just like the Air King. It needs some work, so I am going to do some research on it, and maybe see if Time & Gold can work on it. It would probably take at last 500 bucks, it looks like something is wrong with the crown. It also has a beautiful stainless bracelet, which looks quite wide in proportion to the case which quite impressed me. Usually I find Rolex bracelets a bit too narrow for my liking. Cheers, Carl Made for the Canadian and UK markets exclusively... My wife thought it was too large for her tiny wrist so I unloaded it to the first low-ball offer I received..... ![]() |
