I have a feeling that I might regret this, but...... It looks like I am going to be able to pick up my Zenith in the next few weeks and now I'm thinking about my next planned acquisition. I am always looking for things here and there, but like to plan a more major acquisition. I have decided that I want something a little more 'unique' - a watch that might be considered niche by most people, but something that will now bring something completely different to my collection - I have enough watches now that I don't mind a 'specialist' watch. What I am looking for from you guys is some thoughts as to what that could be. Some of the regulars will know that I am considering a Romain Jerome Moon Dust, and the Zenith Defy Extreme Open also appeals - but that's a lot of money for what it is, but what other 'out there' watches should I be considering???? Here's a couple of rules: It has to be sensible enough to wear - a watch that is so expensive that it will sit in a safe is pointless It has to have something unique about the movement - I would prefer in house, though RJ isn't, but I don't want a standard ETA movement - which rules out Graham I would prefer something that offers a light / bright dial option - I have a lot of dark dial watches. Other than that I am completely open to all suggestions and realistic price points - so let em rip ![]() |

Define 'realistic price point'. |

dhalem wrote: Define 'realistic price point'. Well bearing in mind that I said that I wanted to wear it without fear let's arbitrarily say MSRP of $2,000 - $20,000. Realistically there's probably quality issues for me below $2,000, though I'll be a little flexible there and above that price it's not a watch it's an investment - and that means vintage not modern - or more realistically something other than a watch. |

Have you had a look at De Bethune? http://www.debethune.ch/ Amazing what they do in both inner and outer design. Their 50+ parts silicon tourbillion and the 3D moon phase is very nice. Don't know if either of the Dream Watches are reasonably priced, but I wouldn't mind any of their regular collection watches either. |

I've been eyeing the IWC Perpetuals. Available in the low 20s used. I like the Big Pilot steel version Driver was excited about, but the Portugueses are nice too. |

I love de Bethune aleister - and if you know where I can get one close to my price point I'm all over it - last time I checked they were in the $50k range and up. I don't think that IWC really meets the 'out there' criteria. The Portuguese is nice, and I am a romans fan so the vintage Portofino also appeals, but I think that will be a mainstream addition rather than a niche watch. |

Sorry, no I don't. I wrote my post before I had seen your price range. I'll scratch my head though. |

Panerai - nice large dials, in-house movements, eye catching, masculine, great history, good conversation piece, dress it up or dress it down, and a watch you hate to take off. Plus I just placed a special order with my local AD for a new model and I want some company as my bank account dwindles ![]() |

Urwerk 103 or 201, not sure of the price, but you can't get much more unique than this. Simply amazing IMHO. I've stared at the images of these watches for hours in Watchtime adverts. Old post on TZ, good pics and a price... a bit higher than your budget. http://forums.timezone.com/index.php?t= ... 9853&rid=0 ![]() ![]() |

The idea of wearing a turbine fascinates me. I'd love to see one in person. aleister - as soon as I saw De Bethune in your post I was nodding in agreement - just didn't realise how much they cost! |

It's got to be a Ulysse Nardin's "Freak". You'll probably have to go second-hand given the cost, but it's seriously unique but wearable too. I'd be all over one if I had the cash. Great watch. |
