Hi guys!

Just bought a vintage cockpit clock (Swedish maker L.Sundstedt with a Swiss Le Coultre movement). My idea is to use it as a dashboard clock in my fathers Jaguar. All functions are working and it keeps great time, but the balance feels weak. If I have the clock in the same position it goes on for days. But if I flip it, from lets say glass-up to glass-down it can stop.

Do you guys have any ideas?
Lubrication?
Change of balance, jewels etc?

How hard do I dare to wind it? Can it be over-wound, and damage the spring?

It can definitely be overwound and break the mainspring.

If it stops in different positions then it's probably a balance problem - could be a broken staff, cap jewel, or any number of other problems. Get it serviced - it's going to need it if it is going to live in a high vibration environment like a car.

I looked closer, and I found a small play on the balance wheel. It seems either the cock jewel, or the shaft tip on the cock side is broken.

Any body know where to get spare parts for an object like this?

I would guess that there must be a clock / instrument clock equivalent to the Bestfit catalogues and they would let you identify the size / part number and then a clock parts supply house should be able to help.
