Probably not relevant to most of you, but does anybody know a good way of sending a watch internationally from Australia without it becoming a traumatic experience? By which I mean, without using Australia Post...

Forgive me for the rant, but last week I sent my Oris off to Canada via Express Courier International, which advertised tracking and delivery within 2-4 business days. It's now 9 days later (7 business days). It hasn't arrived, and the information on the tracking website hasn't been updated since the day it was despatched. (Thanks to the buyer, Spartan, for waiting patiently.)

A few months ago I sent a watch to the Netherlands by air mail. I was told that it would take 3-10 business days and could be tracked. Turned out that it took almost a month to arrive (I had to lodge a complaint) and there was no tracking.

If I can't find a realistically-priced alternative this is likely to put me off trading any more watches in future. FedEx seem to have shut down their operations here, and some courier firms I checked with quoted unrealistic prices (i.e. well over $A200).

Any suggestions gratefully accepted. :?

I would expect one of the big companies Fedex, UPS and Purolator should be able to take care of what seems to be a relatively straight forward shipment. I would anticipate its not going to be cheap. Of the three I've used Purolator to ship things across Canada without a problem and would expect it shouldn't be much different for International shipment.

Good luck!!!!

Any luck with this Otto? As you highlighted my understanding is that most international postal companies have left Australia in recent times. Is Australia Post still the most accessible?

Have you tried any international shipping companies?

I still haven't been able to think of or find a viable alternative, unfortunately. I use courier firms all the time for work (although I never deal with them myself), so maybe next time I'll get my secretary to ask one of them about their international services.

The Oris, incidentally, was finally delivered, 15 days after posting  . The tracking details suggest that it spent a fair bit of time waiting to be processed for delivery in Canada, which isn't the sort of thing I had in mind when I chose to send it by "courier".
