My new Chronomat Evolution seems to be gaining about 20 seconds a day... I guess the "fifteen days and fifteen nights" of testing by COSC isn't any guarantee. |

wow... that's a pretty big number. how long have you had it? I have noticed that a few of my breiltlings tend to gain a fair bit when they sit on a winder for a long time.. mostly the Orbitas. |

2 weeks old eh? Yeah 20 seconds is quite a bit. Has it been gaining 20 seconds consistently or do the numbers fluctuate? Could be any number of reasons I've read about so far. Could be magnetized, could be breaking in (though I don't believe this one as much cause of my experience with new watches thus far), etc... I think it just needs to be regulated properly by a Breitling service center in your area. Yeah the movement was COSC certified, but that was before it was added to the case, sealed, shipped, and who knows what else. The way I see COSC is the movement is "worthy" of being chronometer grade. Meaning it's finished and tweaked to perform in such a manner. In your case I think it just needs a simple regulating. But yeah I would be disappointed too because I would expect the watch to be already regulated to perform within those specs out of the box. My Chronomat Evo performs around +2 seconds a day since december of last year. I'm sure your watch will do the same once regulated. Have faith, it happens to watches of all brands and kinds. |

I got my watch back today. So far, it gained 8 secs in the first 24 hours. Much better, but hardly the "+2 secs/day" standard of a "chronometre." I'll call the watchmaker tomorrow to see what he has to say. Perhaps the movement will settle down if I wait. I called a buddy of mine with a B2. He said that his ran +6secs when he got it two years ago, and is now running at -6 secs/day. Not very impressive for a $5000.00 "Chronometre" as far as I can tell. |

Hey Palidin, I've been following your thread on WUS and had replied before the admin closed the thread. I don't want this to be a continuation of that thread nor do I want to re-ignite a possible flame so everyone please give a little respect to each other. I hope your disappointment can be alleviated soon and I'd be glad to talk to you via PM about your concerns. I'm somewhat new to mechanical watches as well but I've learned so much from obsessively reading forum threads and viewing articles on informative sites such as this. Everyday I learn something new and have a growing appreciation and romanticism for these watches. |

I'm going to let it run for the next month or so and hope that it slows down a bit. If not, I guess I'll have to say bye-bye to it for a couple of months and send it to BUSA. |

Palidin Let me start telling you I'm a watchmaker for many years now, and my first job after I graduated from watchmaking school, was actually with Breitling in Belgium. Now; your watch won't just "slow down a bit" in a month. There can be many reasons this watch isn't running correctly, and the most common one with brand new watches is... the wearer! Just the fact that you are wearing this watch 24/7 doesn't guarantee the watch is in fully wound position. And it's that position the watch is regulated and rated on. The titel "Chronometre" doesn't mean 2 seconds a day by the way, it has a flexibility of -4 to +6 seconds/day. Did you manually wind the watch 40 times before putting it on after you got it back? Because if you didn't (if you just shook it a bit) the mainspring has to start from an unwound position, and will have to try to "catch up" all day long, and will not allow the movement to run accurately. If you did wind it and it does run fast, it is most likely a regulation issue, and will have to be taken care of by BUSA. I doubt it that the watch is magnetised, because then it would be off several minutes to hours/day. Feel free to ask any questions. Regards, Vanessa |

I didn't wind it when it picked it up, since it was set to the correct time, I assumed the watchmaker would know about/take care of such things. So what's the fix? Do I wind as such now? BTW: when I first put the watch on, I DID wind it as described, carefully following the owner's manual; the result was almost a 20sec/day gain. |

Like I said, if you do wind it correctly, and it's still off that much, it must be another reason. But try it again, once more, and see what happens. I hope that was the only issue... Good luck! Vanessa |

No, you cannot overwind an automatic watch. The mainspring will "slip" inside the barrel when there's too much tension, so don't worry! Vanessa |

Would definately be interested in hearing how this goes.. i have a very bad habit of just swiriling my watches around when i want them restarted (not enough room on the winders for all of them) because i'm too lazy/rushed to wind them up.. especially some watches like the wings automatic, where the crown is really small and it kind of hurts my fingers to wind it! |
