They are still branded, they aren't counterfeit, and they are manufactured according to certain standardized specifications, however crappy those specifications might be. Unless they have been altered in the aftermarket, they are by definition stock, or (as we loosely use the term) OEM.

:yeahthat :yeahthat :yeahthat Invicta can be picked on :!:

Above 3K, I would never buy a B&R. they are decent looking, but for what they are, they are not worth the money in my opinion. Pure looks, like in many other posts, stones of any type are a no-go. I don't care what brand it is. I'm purely form, function, quality.

This is a very loose OEM definition.

Alright, let me tighten it up. OEM stands for "original equipment manufacturer." That's a company that makes equipment that a certain product maker will incorporate into its product. For instance, if Toyota contracts with a company to produce an acceleration system for the Camry, that company is considered an OEM of that system. Similarly, if a replacement part is made by the same company that produced the original part in the car, it's considered an OEM part. Typically, OEM parts are marketed under the brand name of the product in which they're used; for example, OEM replacement parts for Toyotas are branded as Toyota parts. That's generally how we use OEM around here. We refer to Breitling straps as OEM straps to indicate they are Breitling-branded, as opposed to a non-Breitling brand. And sometimes, if we're referring to a watch that either has all original parts, or has replacement parts that are all branded by the manufacturer, we might say it's "OEM." This latter use of the term is a bit loose, since technically OEM refers either to the manufacturer or to the parts, not the whole product; but it gets the general point across while not being that far off the mark.

With that in mind, I still don't know what you mean by saying Invictas aren't OEM. The fact that they look like a hodgepodge of Russian or Chinese junk doesn't mean they aren't a legitimate brand. It just means they're a crappy brand, which is why I named them as watches I would never want to own. Perhaps you can tell us what you think OEM means, and why Invictas don't qualify.

I'm thinking it was mostly a tounge-in-cheek reference to most Invictas being pure ripoffs of other "real brands?"

dear friends, as Tom has written, my remark was purely tongue-in-cheek, actually quite surprised we are discussing Invicta rather seriously - and quite off topic - here.

What I initially said was: "Not sure pimped up watches classify for this, OEM only ! Come on guys, beat the leopard (or is it a hyena ?) daytona, no, Invicta is not an OEM either, so none of those classify."

Now, Jacksonstone, your OEM definition is, of course, totally correct. If you would now please tell me in what way Invicta qualifies as an OEM by this definitition ?

In the strict sense, an OEM is "A company that produces hardware to be sold under another company's brand". An ODM adds his own design to this hardware, which can either be a complete product or a part of another product. Typical examples are Compal, Mitac, Huawei ( before they started their own branded business), ChiMei, AU Optronics and many many more.

If the complete product is designed by the "brand", we would call these companies CMs or EMSs, typical examples here are again Compal, but best known are Foxconn and Pegatron that manufacture many of the products we consider US brand icons like the Apple iPhones, Ipads, Blackberries, HP computers and notebooks and almost all others.
Edit: Know that RIM is Canadian, not a US company, but fits the picture

Does not apply to Invicta, does it ?

Now, the " (very) loose OEM definition" all of us are using here: we call a strap "Breitling OEM", because it is manufactured to the highest standards of Breitling design, material quality and workmanship.

Is there any Invicta product that fits this description ?

Invicta is the watch industries COBY (have a look at those US technology icons http://www.cobyusa.com, hope I am not offending somebody here who owns a Coby). Or, as I stated before, a company that slaps their brand sticker on "China or Russia imports, without any technical or design autonomy, just a rebranded hodgepodge of junk". I do think this describes Invicta (and others) quite correctly.

If I misunderstood anything here, I do apologize; English is not my native language.

Hope I did not, definitely was not my intention to lay down the smack. I was asked to explain my position, hope I did that in the most respectful way possible.

OK, I see where I got off track here. I missed your use of the word "an." I thought you were saying Invicta watches are not OEM watches, not that Invicta, as a company, is not an OEM of its watches. Given that you had just said "pimped up" watches don't qualify, I thought you were distinguishing between watches one might hate for their aftermarket alterations (as shown by Montexn), versus watches a person hates based on how they leave the factory (e.g., the leopard Daytona), and that somehow Invictas fell more into the aftermarket camp. Classic case of inferring through context, and missing the specific language used. My apologies for that, and for taking us so far down this road. (I still don't see why Invictas wouldn't qualify for this thread, but since you meant it tongue-in-cheek, I guess that's not a point worth belaboring.)

As a peace offering, I would like you to have this Invicta apron. I tried to get Tom to trade his Breiling boxers for it, but he wouldn't bite.

Jacob & Co.
One of the catalysts of the iced watch trend. I will never ever wear an OEM iced out watch. Leave it to the ladies.
