Having owned 8 Rolexes, I feel qualified to give an opinion.
My favorite Rolex is the one I never owned, the Sea-Dweller.
Although I've owned two Subs, I always felt the Sea-Dweller
(at least the early models, back in the '70s) was a little
bulky. I know, I know, that's silly; compared to my Steelfish
or Planet Ocean, it's positively dainty.

But size aside, I think the Sea-Dweller is probably the best
diver's watch ever made. There, I said it.

Steve

I've only owned one Rolie myself - a 50th Anniversary Submariner LV (there used to be a few pictures on here, but I think I binned them when I sold it), and that was enough to definitely make me think twice about buying another. I think Altair hit the nail on the head earlier in this thread where he talks about different "engineering philosophies" between Breitling and Rolex. I'm not saying either way is necessarily right or wrong (especially now that Rolex have finally sorted out their lighter-than-air bracelets and tin-foil clasps  ), but I'm evidently just a Breitling-Man instead of a Rolex-Man!

You're probably right about the Seadweller being the best diver's watch ever made (even though many commercial divers refer to them affectionately as "Drawer-dwellers" instead! ), but I personally still wouldn't want one. The new Deep Sea version is approaching something I'd consider buying, but it's still a way from being an essential purchase for me. (And DEFINITELY not for that price!)

Point taken

Steve

I have always lusted after a Breitling, always...when i was in a position to be able to get one i did.... most people who have seen it do not know anything about it...could be a walmart special for all they know..... But a Rolex....everybody knows what a "Rolex" is all the "nice folks" from the trailer park who win the lotto seem to go out and buy one..... Me I like being different....... If you know what a "ling" is good for you.... if you don't not a prob.....

I don't think you'll get too beaten up on here... if at all! It is BreitlingSource afterall. Now, if you posted that on RolexSource (if it existed!) you might get a somewhat different response!

I agree, I don't find many rolexes aesthetically pleasing. I do like the new Milgauss with the green crystal and that's about it. The Daytona is alright I guess but it's too small and the hype factor is annoying. I kind of hate paying MSRP for anything let alone paying ABOVE MSRP.. not to mention the most sought after Daytonas have a Zenith El Primero movement inside.. So many fakes out there too so people just assume it's a fake :)

Hi,my favorite Rolex is my old trusty wind up Cosmograph Daytona from 1978,why because it was the first real WATCH i ever owned at the time, did i know i had to wind the damn thing every morrning, well no,thats what you get for reading specs before buying. As the second best i like my Seadweller the best, extreamly rugged watch. However theres a few Breitlings that shines above. The green crystal Milgauss is a nice piece, IMO. I recently had one on my wrist and the way the edges of the green crystal shine that distinct GREEN color looks fantastic. Expecially with the combo of the orange hands and markers.

I was offered this watch, after a interview about if I intended to wear/collect or sale it, for the low low price of $6600. I believe that is the MSRP. They were not willing to discount this model at all. Seriousl thought about a layaway purchase, since the new watch fund isnt close to that level right now!!!

None for me, I just don't see the appeal at all. I guess it's just down to the fact that many years ago they were the most prolific fakes around and I can't look at one without thinking fake.

Also I personally hate any watch with a cyclops...............................

Just my own personal thoughts....................................

Submariner SS with the black face. A simple yet refined watch that will never go out of style.

Hi Folks,

This is an old picture done with a very cheap camera…

I think at the end, it all boils down to personal preference. What one adores may be completely tasteless to others; what one adores by seeing the pictures may bring complete aversion when tried at AD…For me personally, SD was always my object of desire. When finally tried it at AD, I did not like it at all. Same day I tried Submariner Date, bought it immediately and it was my favorite watch ever since (till I bought AS)…There is something the way 904L steel feels and looks…

Thanks for looking.

So I tried on a Sea Dweller yesterday and to be honest it felt a bit small on me... it could be that it was because I had on my SA... the SA kinda ruins smaller watches for me :(

I like a plain Datejust, simple and not OTT.

The simpler the better. Air King-style, vs. a larger diving watch case. All-stainless, preferably with white or MOP face.
