This is the first thread of this type I've read since joining this forum. If you're going to spend more than a couple hundred dollars on any watch, then you're doing so out of artistic rather than practical reasons. Trying to find practical reasons for not buying one particular brand of watch is an endeavour doomed to failure.

I like Panerais. They're too expensive for me, though if I were independently wealthy, I could see me getting a Luminor Marina. I think it's silly that your watch gets a different model number depending on what exactly attaches it to your wrist, but that's minor. I do like all the aftermarket bands you can get for them. I want a band made from a Mauser ammo pouch!

Yeah, but they're Italian, so it would have to be a Beretta.

The funny thing about this thread is that I like the way that PAMs looked before, but since this nonsense started I've been looking more into them and now I like them even more than I did before. Just one more watch to add to my wish list.

It could be a Mauser ammo pouch that was supplied to the Italian army during World War II. :D

I've been away from the site for a few days. I was anticipating some good PAM talk here but it's a little sad to see how the thread evolved. You can't argue taste.

I really like Panerai watches, hope I own one some day. I love the style and like Roff said, the interchangeable straps are a definite appeal. Customization, personalization, and added value. I'd argue that the base PAMs are some of the most versatile watches on the market. Sturdy, quality, decent water resistance, dress them up or down depending on strap choice and you could wear one in just about any situation from water sports to a tuxedo.

The Panerai Arktos is one of my favorite watches ever, a top candidate for an adventurer's watch. Its bold styling, ruggedness, water resistance, and GMT function make it an ideal travel companion.

Well, I enjoyed that (talking about watches). No need for personal attacks on anyone's opinion, okay guys?

Peace

Mike
