Inspired by all you guys I did a little ordering at Panerai, IWC, Zenith and Blancpain... now we´ll see how they all perform... report coming soon!

(and yes, all of the above mentioned manufacturers have at least one watch I´d like to own, so I am really looking forward to check their performance)

The Blancpain book (you can't call it a catalogue!) is outstanding. Made me realise for the first time what an innovative company they have been.

Happy reading!

 Great, now I feel I need a Blancpain catalogue too!

To be fair, as hnb said, the catalogues I've got/ordered are all from manifacturers that I'm interested in purchasing something from, but this Blancpain one sounds rather good too!

Bizarrely my dad has the current JLC catalogue too! I think they sent him it as he enquired about repairs to his Atmos clock, and that's quite an impressive book too. No doubting JLC are lovely and innovative pieces, but the only one that caught my eye was the Master Compressor Extreme W-Alarm. That's a very nice watch IMHO.

I requested a Ball catalogue a couple of weeks ago which arrived yesterday. Lot's of nice pictures of trains - not got round to looking at the watches yet!

Anyway, this afternoon very polite guy from Ball phones me from Switzerland to invite me to a gala evening/reception or something like that in London next Thursday. Can't make it myself but a head's up in case anyone else is interested in going.

Didn't make a note of the guy's name but you can contact them via

I got the Ulysse Nardin book in the mail yesterday. Really nice book and it came with a MSRP list and a DVD. They make some great pieces but after seeing the price list... they are proud of most of thier models. Still thinking about a Marine Maxi, though.

After exactly three weeks JLC and IWC catalogues showed up;

The IWC book is amazing, it is really a book... I am now seriously lusting for an Big Ingenieur or Big Pilot. What a serious company they are, I had no idea! Hate to say it, but when it comes to marketing Breitling is behind IWC by far.
OK, they are a bit expensive, but there is much thought, experience and technology going into their products.

The JLC catalogue, well... I got a broken cardboard box and a very nice personal letter, but the catalogue was not there. I guess someone at the postoffice is looking through it as I am typing this.

You are ABSOLUTELY spot on concerning the IWC catalogue. It's like a novel! My respect for IWC has grown and grown over the last couple of years, right from when I saw my mate's Pilot's Chronograph 2 or 3 years ago, through reading about them on the net, then finally trying on a Big Pilot a few months back, to getting the catalogue/book and reading it cover to cover!

I've got 2 sets of JLC catalogues now too, and I must be honest but there are 3 models in there that I want as well! Again, totally fantastic catalogue but a little light on information compared to the IWC catalogue. However (and this is the reason I have 2 sets of catalogues) they neglected to put in a UK price list with the first set, so I asked them to send me just the price list, and they sent me a second set of catalogues........... without the price list again! Never mind - a quick search on-line gives a rough idea of prices.

I tried to order an IWC catalogue online because I hate going into the Toronto AD (Solaris) because their attitude stinks. You can't even get an IWC catalogue shipped to you in Canada - you can only get them in person!

That hardly screams customer service considering their Canadian dealer network is so small.

So to sum this up; IWC, JLC and Zenith sent me catalogues. Blancpain and Panerai did not want me to buy any watches.
Too bad for them. And to be honest, it is very probable that my next watch will be an IWC. Time will tell.

Blancpain may just be slow. They took a while to send me mine, but they did so without a second request. Panerai were very weak, and it took me numerous attempts before they finally got their backsides in gear and sent me something. I'd suggest calling them direct instead of relying on their website. No-one seems to monitor their in-box!
