I can't argue with that, Fred. Thanks for the edification on the different Speedy models. Clearly you made the right decision.

None of them have that excellent balance the speedie pro has. I had all four, the regular pro, the sapphire sandwich, the new inhouse one and the FP one in front of me yesterday and although I was tempted by the 9300 movement... I couldn't help but go for the plain vanilla speedie pro. After all, that dial is what one looks at most, and it is, to me, perfect.

I agree with this. Great pickup, congrats.

A few years ago, what I wanted was a 44mm automatic Speedmaster with an in-house movement and a date (I even posted about it here at the time). Now there is such a thing, but what I will buy instead, when I inevitably get another Speedy, is the plain old 3570 or maybe a vintage model.

It was a real eye-opener when I 'upgraded' from a hesalite to a sapphire Speedy and realised I didn't like it as much.

Huge congrats!! Looks awesome on the bracelet!

I really need to start looking for a bracelet for my old Speedy. If anyone knows of a vintage bracelet that'll fit a '67 Pro, I'd appreciate being told ;)

The Bracelet to fit your watch should be the ref. 1039. In '68 I think it was replaced by the more solid 1171. The 1171 should fit your watch as well and has the advantage of still being available new from Omega. They look quite different, as the 1039 was flat, whereas the 1171 is rounded like a Rolex DayDate bracelet. I rather like the look of the 1171 and I am thinking about purchasing one for my new speedy.

The tough bit is finding the right endlinks, as there are many different ones to fit all the different case references... When in doubt, check with O.Frei or directly with the Omega factory. In my case, it seems the 633 endlink should do the job.

Difficult question, and even more difficult decision. Being two completely different watches.

I don't think you will regret the decision you made with the Speedy. Congratulations!

Two of the main reasons for my getting the Speedy were the hesalite crystal and the manual wind movement. Once the movement "settled in", it is now the most accurate watch I have ever owned. It certainly has it's own personality. Sometimes, I find it winds very easily, and other times quite stiff. The crown is too narrow. But these are minor issues, and in the end make me even more fond of the watch.

Imagine a watch that looks virtually the same as it did in 1957, and it is the one watch I have owned that gets the most compliments!

Sometimes, I think I will sell it and get another watch. I have done that many, many times with watches and never regretted it. I wonder if I could ever do that with the Speedy, though?

I hope you enjoy your Speedy as much as I do mine!

Cheers,
Carl

Have to add: I have to agree with you about the dial symmetry. It is perfect. The subdials are perfectly placed, and the text on the dial is perfectly centered. No part of a subdial or of a marker overlaps or interferes with another. You will seldom find that on any watch.
