Bit of a negative thread this, but hey, I may as well throw a cat among the pigeons here myself!

Just love the way you use Shakespeare's language D8

You get my vote as well.

sadly not a fake, pic above does not show the watch in it's full glory, as the leopard strap is not visible, how do you like this ?

IMO homages/tribute watches cover a very wide range of concepts. From pretty-much 1:1 copies except for the logo on the dial at one end of the spectrum, to something like the Ploprof 1200 at the other end which, while being a different size to the original with a different dial, movement, crystal, etc, is still a homage to something that's gone before.

By that rationale, it seems the Transocean chrono is also a bit of an homage.

And I would agree with you. And the fact that the TOC is one of my favourite all time Breitlings is testament to the fact that I don;t have a problem with homage/tribute/"inspired by" pieces. Admittedly the TOC is very much at the Ploprof 1200 end of the spectrum, but it's still far from an original piece..... and all the better for it IMO.

There are so many boutique and smaller brands out there these days who make very high quality and, more to the point, appropriately priced ETA-based watches...

I know this is off topic, but could you name a few of your preferred ones? I'd be interested in checking them out. Plus, it would be a positive learning experience in this otherwise negative thread.

Sure - I'll PM you some rather than post it on here as it's a bit off-topic.

Maybe Rolex is trying to branch out of the "old boys" market and into another lucrative market, the DINKs!! Sexual orientation clear...

Forgive my ignorance, but just so we're all clear...Rolex actually did that? That's not a custom aftermarket job?

Well then, I see no reason for this thread to continue. The Rolex wins.
