OK, a very cool little update!

JC Biver, the CEO of Hublot, saw my pics at another forum and contacted me publicly via the forum and then via email, and we had a discussion of what turned me finally to Hublot, the direction of the watch industry, and general watch talk! He finally send me the following message:

"Please send me the case number and your address and I will send you my handwritten and extended guarantee till end of 2015"

Apparently he does this all the time! How cool is that??!!!

Yeah Biver is well known for that - the man can definitely build a brand image. Good for you Altair!

Ill say, the man has unlimited passion an drive! Good for him!

I have to say, as much as I was dismissive of Hublot as a passing fad, I am very impressed with their new direction! Their new manufacturing facilities are very impressive, and the innovation that has gone into their movements is noteworthy! I particularely like the fact that not only are the escapements in their Unico movements modular, which means they can be easly removed and worked on which will reduce repair time and cost, but are made out of silicon to reduce wear and get this, can be engraved upon request as per Biver. Allot of high technology in the new movements and they simply look spectacular, have a look:

Also, I like the fact they keep on evolving their designs in a significant way, not just color variations anymore. The new King Power design is nice, I am just glad it is an all black ceramic, which I am not interested in. If they start applying their fusion concept, I might be in trouble!!!

Thanks for the great review and pictures Altair.

I'm not the greatest fan of Hublot, and I would probably still choose your ROO, but that is definitely the nicest Big Bang I've seen.

Great pickup. Enjoy in good health, once the flu has gone

After some negative press on here about Hublot recently I must say I'm surprised by how much I like that piece. Although it definitely looks a lot like the AP ROO in shape (and I'd probably prefer the AP ROO Safari given a choice) I think it looks great and like the skeletonized aspect of it. How does it wear?

Great review again Altairand congratulations on the acquisition. No doubt you're happy with adding another element to your already phenomenal collection.

My guess is that it's a fancy-pants manual.

Congrats Altair! Actually quite nice looking. I personally enjoy the videos. Your photography is amazing however. More of both please

I don't understand why there are so many Hublot haters. Among them, I think some feel that Hublot copied off AP, and some are interested but won't admit it because of their loyalty to another brand. Let's all be honest... the Hublot BB and ROO are similar to some degree in casing. However, Hublot has taken it to another level with their innovations: material usage, exhibition back, rubber infused leather band, SymCard technology (verifies authenticity), hublotista.com (like facebook for those with Hublots). All of this is offered for a reasonable price in comparison to the market. At the same price level, you don't get much with AP. Maybe nothing at all! My question for the haters is this: How is AP being innovative? They have the BEST looking movement I have ever seen, but for $14,000-$18,000 (i.e. ROO Themes), you can't even see it! So, why not buy a comparable watch (Hublot Steel Evolution) half the price and get all the features and more? Or spent the same and get an Aero Bang?

I do not hate Hublot, I just prefer the original to the copy  Which model was first on the market? Funny that the one that was second on the market is more than "similar to some degree" to the first.

At least here in Switzerland, there is more than a consensus in the branch that Hublot is a copy of AP. Not only that, but Hublot is even copying the ambassadors AP is having. They had a football player, we'll have a football player, etc.

IMO (and I think that others will agree), Hublot is way overpriced for what it is.

And I do not think that members here who're interested in Hublot won't admit it because of their loyalty to another brand simply because there are many that have very different brands in their collection. Now, I can admit that they may have a leaning for a brand but I think that members here are much more open-minded than that.

I wont get into the details here, as I am working on a Titans review that matches up the Hublot to the AP, and addresses those points in depth. But I will say that there is no doubt Hublot took the Offshore into consideration for their new design when they came up with the Big Bang IE the screws on the bezel, but the Big Bang has allot more in common to the Hublot Classic original from 1980 than it does the Offshore, this is much more evident in real life than in pics.

As for the similarities, I dont like it when companies copy each others designs without innovating. Style cues are fine though. The Rolex Submariner and Blancpain FF have influenced entire generations of divers, many of them great watches in their own right. Similarly, to take the issue seriousely, you have to look at the original Gerald Genta designs of the 80s that inspired all these Porthole watches, AP Royal Oak (A British battle ship), the Patek Nautilus (Named after the legendary ship), VC Overseas (self explanatory), and the Hublot (literally French for "Porthole") even the IWC Ingeniure line looks similar to a beefer up Royal Oak in fact with its case design and bezel screws, not to the extent of the BB, but still!

That said, there is no doubt all those brands have more legitimacy to those designs as they where original Gerald Genta designs and not inspirations (except the Hublot and IWC) and I would like to see Hublot evolve further, which they seem to be doing rapidly. Their new designs for 2010 and 2011 are taking the company in a somewhat new direction and one of the things that I like about Hublot is that they are ready to respond to market demand quickly, coupled with their new manufacturing and design facility, I think they have a fighting chance to become a truly respectable brand (which they are far from being at the moment)

Damn it I rambled again!

No wonder acquisition of bankrupt BNB (along with ex-BNB founder and CEO Matthias Buttet) played a major role in that!

Are you certain that this is an in-house movement? I think only the Unico line has an in-house movement.
