Does a Seiko tell the same time as my Panerai?

Yes.

Can a Toyota get me from point A to point B in the same amount of time doing the speed limit?

Yes.

But the question for me is, which is more luxurious to drive and which is prettier?

I'll take my Panerai over a Seiko any day - I don't care if people recognize it or not - it's all in the details and it's all about the ride :)

GS > panerai :)

GS > Panerai IMHO. Everything the watch snob said about Panerai is true.

I would say that the GS are better watches than entry level Panerais such as the 111 or Zero, but cant put them quite at the same level as the higher end nodels such as the 233, 311, 323 etc.

Better not read what he said about Breitling

In all seriouseness, the guy is a marketing gimmick, people read him because he gets them rilled up. He often deliberately insults the owners of the most popular brands and that gets him clicks, many of his posts actually contradict each other. Hey if it works

Have only just encountered this guy now-- he's hilarious. Having read through a selection of articles, he definitely contradicts himself a lot, so I can't say I buy what he's saying, beyond that every brand and every model has its drawbacks. Pretty sure this joke will only be appreciated by the only other Irish person on the forum, but I kind of feel like I'm reading an older, more intelligent Ross O'Carroll Kelly...

what makes you say that? the GS build quality is easily up to par with panerai's higher end models. furthermore, the movement in the GS is 100% manufactured in-house (every component included). from what i understand, panerais "in-house" movements still borrow certain parts from other makers.

Didn't know a Seiko had wheels  :)

I was joking Altair. Yes he contradicts himself regularly and is not to be taken seriously. It's a good laugh from time to time when there are not enough new posts to take up my entire coffee break at work though!

I don't know anything about the build quality and craftsmanship of Grand Seikos, but aesthetically this thing

Doesn't hold a candle to a PAM 312. But that's just my humble opinion.

as i said earlier, aesthetic preference is strictly subjective. im talking about overall build quality and attention to detail.

You are right and I agree that design is subjective, which is why I keep it out of my comparision reviews. But innovation and history are not, a Panerai simply has more validity as a high end watch, the innovations such as the crown guard and movement structure and movements are subsntative. Not to say that the Grand Seiko is not an excellent watch, every one of them without a doubt is a far greater value than competing brands, but the fact remains they all look like datejust, Omega, or submariner wannabes and that brings them down a few notches and is why I preffer the Ananta line, they are built to almost similar standards as the GS line, have the excellent Spring Drive movements, and are truely innovative and unique in their case and dial designs.

Altair got me going on the Anata line as well, and I must admit, they have almost had me buying one more than once. If I had a bigger budget and could afford more pieces, I would have certainly bought one. But there are more Lings I want.

Never going to have a PAM. I don't care if they make a movement that can balance my cheque book and cook me breakfast. They are that ugly.

I have noticed that the more people initially hate Panerai the more they get into them eventually. Case in point: Me.

Here's an interesting article on the subject I would like to share with you. Maybe some of you have already read it:

That seems to be the case with a lot of brands. And not just with watches, either...

Or maybe it's just me...?
