The PO is the nicest looking current Omega IMHO. The only thing that bugs me with Omega is the fact that they still make pin-linked bracelets. If only they'd move to screw-linked they'd be right up there for me.

In defense of Omega and the other companies that use pin link bracelets, they are still the most secure way to make a bracelet. You'll never have a failure like a screw falling out. I think that screw bracelets only appeal to the bunch of us that are buying and sizing watches on a regular basis, but for those that buy a watch, size it once, and wear it for 15 years, you can't beat the security of a pin/collar bracelet. A properly sized pin/collar bracelet will never fail.

But I have to admit, I'm always a bit happy when i see screw links as I can wear the watch in a few minutes instead of close to an hour (which includes crawling around on the floor looking for the collar that fell/popped out of bracelet while sizing).

You're probably absolutely right about pin-links rarely failing, but you are also right about them being a bit ol' pain in the backside to adjust! I have all the right tools for it, but I've still managed to bend the odd pin in my time. :? Screw-links are just so convenient, and I also think it just shows an attention to detail that I appreciate. (The IWC system of pins is an exception to my rule as they are made to allow adjustment without any fancy tools..... and they are apparently extremely secure).

Thanks for the pics fellas, the PO's look great on your wrists.

:) Maybe the 45.5 won't be so big on me after all

Roff - LOL at the scribble comment! Although I appreciate PAMs for their comtemporary simplicity....they are a bit too simple for my liking. Even the chrono models.
Maybe I'd wear one when I grow a pony tail and hang out in avant-garde art galleries! :P

Back to the Planet Ocean....some people say they're too common (probably a lot of fakes about!) and the Bond connection kinda makes it cheesy, but that has never hurt the reputation or image of the Seamaster 300 or the Submariner.

I like the PO for is relative simplicity compared to say, an Aeromarine Breitling, and also for its chunky styling. Thankfully its something that a Rolex don't do, bar the DeepSea.

I've got to disagree with you there Roff, especially as far as Panerai is concerned.

The reason I don't own a PO is simply because I think they are just a bit too ordinary looking. For a while I really liked the orange bezel, but now (if I was in the market for one) I'd personally choose the black bezel and white numeral version. They are clearly good watches, with nice internals in the form of the in-house co-axial movement, but I'd have to be offered a very VERY good deal on one to buy one.

Oh I know I'm in the minority, but that's OK - that's why we don't all wear the same watch. Maybe my tastes will change as I get older.

Same here. Tryied an PO on but it didn' do for me - nothing special, plus the bond factor :? .
As of Panerai I just don't get, why does it say swiss made on the watch when it's Italian? How do they justify the prize? Because it was worn in such a "sophisticated" movie like Daylight? The caliber? Nothing special there. And the dial? As Roff said!

This is only mine opinion, I do not mean to offend somebody.

I think the whole "Panerai thing" kind of sneaks up on you when you least expect it, and before you know it you love them! I was pretty similar to you a couple of years ago, but over time they really started to appeal to me. I don't own one myself - primarily due to me wanting a Manifattura 270, which can hardly be described as cheap - but I DEFINITELY will own one.

I'm sure they're not for everyone (and I guess some people will NEVER get into them), but they definitely have something about them that seems to win a lot of people over to them over time.

I think is because most people want to wear a watch because somebody wore it somewhere and not because they like a specific watch(You said you want a specific one and I'am completly understand that), you see it around here to: what breitling should I buy? I don't get it. I buy a watch for me, not for what others think about me wearing it. I've to like it, so I exactly know what model and why. That's why I never bought a Rolex - they don't have a single model for me the knowledge of having the most known watch on the planet just wouldn't mean the slightest thing to me. But this way you can ask a vastly price for an ordinary watch.

I personaly would like to get a F.P. Journe Chronomètre à Résonance watch and a blu Majesty Tourbillon MT3, that I quess most people never heard about, but can't think off ever spending that amount of money on a watch. But who knows.

I TOTALLY agree with you about buying a watch for you and you alone - that's exactly how I am about the watches I buy. In fact I tend to keep my watches hidden up my sleeves when I'm wearing them as I don't want to look like some flash poser to people! I buy watches because I enjoy them, not for what I think people will think of me.

In fact, a while ago I had a PM from a guy (who I don't believe has come back) asking me which Breitling he should buy to get the most attention! :?

Well, it's each to their own I guess, but spending several thousand pounds just to get people to say "Wow, nice watch", seems a bit daft to me.

Just minutes ago I read an article 'bout guys wearing mechanical watches to get laid, cause golddiggin' women are observing mens watches for sliding seconds hands thinking if he's wearing an expensive watch he would a rich benefactor.

About the PM I think I got the same one

Must say, sometimes I really enjoy to watch a poser tyin' to flash his golden rolex over the entire bar to gain some notice, but only for minutes then I keep busy livin' my life. :cigar:

LOL - those Laid by Ling stories are funny!

To go onto PAMs again - I love the Ferrari Rattrapante Chrono series of watches, but I don't have a Ferrari !
I'd imagine everytime someone saw the watch, they'd ask if I had a Ferrari. So until that day comes, I won't be wearing one...period.

Besides, I think I'd buy a Porsche 997 Turbo first! 8)

You're not wrong about that. I was sick of hearing about them. Then I saw a lot of them when I was in Japan. Now I'm back home, and guess where I was yesterday morning when I was trying to avoid work? That's right, a Panerai AD... I have a catalogue on my desk now.

Anyhow, 1952: before I bought my PO I knew that some people considered the design a bit bland, but once I had it on my wrist I couldn't stop looking at it (I still can't). It just looks right to me. If the design calls to you, then I doubt you'll regret it for a moment. By the way, I think you could easily manage the 45.5, as long as you don't mind the large watch look.

I agree with you Otto - you certainly see a lot of Panerai in Japan. That has got me a bit interested too, some look really nice, but not interested enough (so far).

  I think "so far" might be the key phrase in your post, aleister! I really didn't think I'd become interested in them, but it has happened. Not before I get an SA though!
