first off let me start by saying great move. i get the feeling that if you were to get one of these Rolex's you will be happy to use it as your main watch. I have had my share of watches over the last 2 years and I can tell your first hand that the two Rolex's I have now get 98% of the wrist time. Its just something about the simplicity of them.

ok on to which one to own. all great pieces that you picked. of the 3 I would lean towards the GMT 2C personally. The black dial makes it very easy to match with anything and it fits perfectly under a dress shirt cuff. plus I really like the Polished Centre Links. IMO it just makes that watch look a little more elegant.

If you do go with the GMT, I've seen quite a few that have the polished center links brushed. It might not be a bad idea if you're going to wear this every day.

Wow! Lots of response and an overwhelming majority lean towards the GMT II. Not surprising as it really is a very versatile watch that can go from boardroom to beach very easily. The Datejust, while it is one of my favorites might just be a bit dressy or my purposes, since I am pretty casual in both my work and personal life.

That being said the Explorer II in whitw has just always been a watch that catches my eye. Maybe because of the bold styling others have mentioned, but it just had such an interesting look with the oversized hands and black acrylic outlines that teally pop against the white dial.

Being that tomorrow is April 16th and I get a day off I think I will head to the Rolex AD and spend some time with them side by side

GMT for me. I like the design of the bezel the most, and since its bi-directional its easy for me to set it when timing things.

Brushed centre links was one of the reasons I sold my GMT to get a Sub C. I wasn't prepared to modify it from factory spec, but I've seen some online that look really nice.

To answer the OP's question, GMT for me too. Really liked mine, even though I sold it.

As sort of a newbie to the brand could someone explain the difference between the easy link and adjustable bracelet?

I am not very familiar with the Rolex bracelets beyond know ing that they have improved quite a bit recently. What clasp comes on the GMT and Explorer?

Sub C bracelet has multiple positions adjustable within a range of (I think) about 18mm. No other model has this bracelet as far as I am aware (the DSSD has something different with multiple adjustments but I'm not familiar with it).

The current GMT and Explorer 2 have the easy link, which is a single piece under one end of the clasp which can be flipped out to provide a 5mm extension. So, two positions, with no adjustment in between. Still very useful though.

The DSSD clasp extension is rather bizarre. The easy link clasp is very, very nice. But the Sub C has the best on-the-fly adjustable clasp ON THE PLANET.

Funny Driver mentioned the Aqua terra, as I was going to as well. Since the decision is based on the three you listed, I would probably choose the GMT as it seems to be the most versatile. If it were my choice, and it was going to be a rolex, it would be the SS sub.

GMT II for me. Like you, I'm a casual guy and I think it would fit nicely. I like the explorer II but when I saw it in person it really turned me off. It wears a lot bigger than 42mm. And with the bigger lugs and the maxi hands dial it seems a very chunky. But coming from a navi timer, you may like it.

One more vote for GMT II... U can actually consider Sub C if u are concerned about value retention, but I think GMT II looks the best among the Rollies as I prefer a little more trendy styling without losing on the timeless and classic appeal. I think you might grow tired of the looks of the DJ after a while....
