Call me crazy (or ignorant), but I don't understand why AP comes up in these "best watchmaker/manufacturer" conversations. The brand is more one dimensional than Rolex. AP has the Royal Oak line and little else that ever makes it to a retail floor. I do really like the Jules Audemars Equation of Time, but it's a piece rarely spoken of. I really can't see AP in the same league as PP or VC.

Watchmaking development for Lange is still made by JLC, although they all will deny it.

Top Watchmakers to my opinion:

1. Patek
2. JLC
3. GO
4. Zenith
5. VC
6. UN

But maybe I rated JLC too high, as they also have quartz watches...

Can you source this claim? Not that I don't believe you, rather I would love to read more about this.

The thing about patek phillippe is they claim that that he listens to the repeater watch. Evan if he did he's not a watchmaker so how do he know what is supposed to sound like. Also the movements are not hand made. But this is my opinion.

All good brands mentioned, although I dont really like many (if any) PP. AP has some absolutely amazing pieces as well, although with the exception of a couple of their cheaper watches, I dont think there are any that I would actually wear. Im with JLC on this one. They make watches that are as complicated as anyone, they have a wide variety of styles, and they are always pushing the innovative side of things while still keeping things classy.

I went to the RM boutique a month or two ago and was completely underwhelmed. Just about every model was gigantic and clumsy looking. I was almost like "no shit you can make these complicated watches when theyre that huge." (it might have also been the prices that made me angry though :D ).
