Roff can you share some of your expert knowledge on both lines for me please? Why do you feel Breguet is on a different plain?

It's not an objective perspective, I just have a big emotional pull for Breguet and that's tough to objectify. Breguet is the bigger historic name, simply because of the many achievements of Abraham Louis Breguet, but Blancpain is just as good in terms of quality.

To compare these two pieces specifically, the guilloche adds more interest to the dial over the Blancpain, and the blued Breguet style hands are just timeless for me. I also find the movement of the Breguet to be more interesting, the finishing on the Blancpain is exquisite, but the style is very similar to many others.

:yeahthat

Roff you echoed my sentiments exactly on all points and I feel the same about Blancpains style being similar to many others. All things being pretty much equal, it really comes down to what is aesthetically pleasing to the buyer when faced with having to choose between the two I suppose. On that note I am with you that the Breguet has the edge in that department.

Of course when it comes to Divers however, the Fifty Fathoms by Blancpain is in a class all it's own I think. The FF is most often compared to the renowned Deep Sea by Rolex, which if given a choice, I would undoubtedly choose the FF over the DS hands down any day.

I didn't read every post in this thread, so maybe my comments were addressed.

Blancpain is more highly regarded and they use superlative movements by F. Piguet. Breguet's movements are supposedly manufactured in house, but one doesn't really hear much about how great they are. Over the years I have also heard of quality issues with Breguet, don't know what those were. I was just visiting one of the largest US retailers of high end pre owned watches, and he advised me to avoid Breguet, even though he had some to sell.

If you get a Blancpain chrono, know that the F. Piguet movement is regarded by many as one of, if not the finest, chronograph movement made today. There are prettier movements out ther (A. Lange and Sonne), but arguably none better.

Very strange, Gary, I always heard it the other way round. I don't sell either brand, but as far as I know, there are hardly problems with the Breguet, but every Blancpain coming back nearly every year for problems. The movements are too fine to be worn. Another dealer once told me: "Never sell a Blancpain to a good customer, You don't want to loose him!"

Concerning the looks of the watch, I would go for the Blancpain anytimes, but not for what I have learned of their movements.
